Did Barack Obama Refuse To Shake Hillary's Hand?
I'm not one for tender hearted niceties...If someone doesn't want to shake my hand fuck him or her but I'm not running for president...If it's true it's going to cost him dearly among women voters as it did when Clayton Williams refused to shake Ann Richards' hand after their televised gubernatorial debate...

Although it is a fevered fantasy of the Hillarbots to think so.

7. In another thread, a DUer said Sen. Clinton reached to shake several hands
(including Sen. Ted Kennedy's). And Obama quickly turned away, to avoid interacting with her.

That is what another DUer watching, said happened.

47. Excuse me? Who did I call names, since I try not to?
You liked me the other day when you wanted a hug, now you say I'm name calling? The poster I was talking about has gone all over this forum today using Billary, etc, and slamming Clinton, making accusations, and I just wanted to call him on it.
Or, did you mean to reply to the other poster - I'm confused?

My bad. Seems like I've been doing that too much lately. I read it in a hurry and got distracted at the same time. I thought you were calling someone a Hillbot while telling someone not to call names. I really got that screwed up. I still like you and can still use that hug! I'm really, really sorry.

86. Hi, Auntie Bush! No, I would never call someone that,
That particular poster has been calling Hillary supporters every nasty name in the book, and I decided to start calling him on it. I don't care for all the name calling regarding the candidate's supporters and many of the Anti-Hillary posters seem overly fond of Rush Limbaugh's talking points - whom I detest.
Anyway, apology gladly accepted, and here's some hugs for you;

9. If Hillary is interacting with someone, and he interacting with someone
he doesn't have to purposely head towards her and wait for her to stop talking to someone, so he can shake her hand. In fact it would look awkward.

Of course, he might have really just shrugged her off, but I don't know why the heck we would do that. Would be stupid, and shaking hands and talking is one of the things politicians are trained to do.

Refusing to shake a person's hand, even a person you think is odious is a faux pax and costly in political settings...

My comments were intended to make fun of the non-event, which appears to have only cost Obama the votes of those DUers who were already firmly in another candidate's camp.

63. Here is AP's Report on it
No chitchat between Clinton and Obama By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer
28 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - So close, yet so far away — and so bitter.

"Rival Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama came within a foot of each other just before President Bush's State of the Union speech Monday night and managed not to acknowledge each other, and certainly not touch.

Clinton, clad in scarlet, crossed the aisle between their seats on the House floor and reached out a hand to greet Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Democratic icon whose endorsement she had courted only to lose it to Obama.

Kennedy shook her hand while Obama, wearing a dark suit and standing between the two, turned away.

The rivals then retreated to their seats, only the aisle and four senators between them."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080129/ap_on_el_pr/state_of_union_clinton_obama_1;_ylt=AqLEuuZ_OG5qH8Psv5m7YvJh24cA

There is also a photo up at the link showing the moment when Hillary and Ted shook hands with Obama facing the other way.

78. clad in scarlet?
She was wearing the prototypical Washington DC red business suit.

I think they must pass them out to all female Senators on arrival in DC.

70. Let's see if this gets any play on MSM
if it does then it might make a difference. If not, then...not.

71. In answer to your question
The AP photo may or may not accurately capture this event or non event, but in it it "looks" like Obama is snubbing Clinton while she is going out of her way to greet Senator Kennedy. I have no idea how widely it will get circulated but it won't be helpful to Obama. If video footage gives a different impression of this moment his campaign probably should locate some.

I'm not real sure if he refused to shake her hand or not but while Kennedy was standing and Barack was sort of by him, Hillary shook Kennedy's hand but Barack didn't. Whether it was intentional or not I don't know. While watching CNN the commentators did say Barack was watching to see if Hillary would stand up or not.

I guess Bush* is the Prince Of Peace...

A $100.00 donation to DU says you can't spin your way out of that one...

And I'm here to register that thought.
