Shuster says press wanted Dean to "massage" them. LOL
Here is a portion of the Hardball transcript, and I find this too funny for words. Dr. Dean must not give enough massages...Ha Ha.

MATTHEWS:
"But let me ask you. It seems to me a whole series of things went-and I always had my heart with Dean. I love the fact that he had guts, and he stood out against-this little guy stood out against the establishment. I always like guys like that and always say so.

But he didn't seem to have the ability to hold together his own message.

He should have been prepared to deal with those kinds of things, and he didn't seem to be. And saying that catching-and I'm no fan of this war, but saying that Saddam Hussein's capture wasn't making us safer didn't sound right.

SHUSTER: He wasn't prepared for that, Chris, and he wasn't prepared for the pounding that he got from the media as a result.

And in fact, his inability to reach out to the media convinced a lot of us covering them that look, if he doesn't have the savvy to massage the reporters and massage the reporters traveling with him, what's he going to be like as far as diplomacy and handling leaders around the world? And I think that was one of the reasons why the media turned on him.

MATTHEWS: You guys are looking for massages from the candidates?

You're going in the wrong direction here....."

I guess Dr. Dean just did not give enough "massages" to the press. Wouldn't be managed by them.

1. So now he's supposed to be a masseuse?
Who knew? Those poor iddy biddy widdle egos are so fwagile.

Now we know that the media will destroy you if you don't cater to their whims. You must give them nicknames and crack jokes so they feel *important.*

Maybe a bus ride...:silly:

4. Imagine if I said this at parent teacher conferences
Yes, I gave Suzy an A and your child an F but Suzy made my job easier by cleaning her desk each day and your child didn't. I would be fired on the spot. Why aren't these bozos.

7. No but it is a bad thing for the press to be lazy and self indulgent
I realize the idea of actually doing work turns off alot of these talking heads but they do draw salaries so maybe they should.

A journalist on the trail must:

1) Abandon their home

2) Go on the road permanently

3) Listen to the same fucking speech be given over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again

4) Find something to write about every day, bearing #3 in mind

Now, any campaign with a brain in its head will take care of this oft-abused human, who is far from home and forced to listen to repetetive stump speeches. A campaign with no brain will expect this human to manufacture happy copy with nothing to work with.

Ask yourself: Would you do that job?

Duh.

11. actually if I had writing skills I might
but this is a free country after all. You and they are perfectly free to choose any occupation for which you have talent and wish to choose. No one makes those people go on those planes and listen to those speeches. They do so of their own volition and thus should do their jobs. Just like I do mine and you did yours.

10. I thought dsc's metaphor was right on target.
That's why Bush was treated better than Gore in 2000. It's been said many times before.

9. Bush got a lot of credit in the 2000 elections for sucking up...
...to the reporters, behind the scenes. This doesn't surprise me the least.
