And more people voted in the democratic primary than in the repuglican primary. But cynics keep saying Obama couldn't carry SC in the GE.

1. In the South. He out-campaigned everyone else in the SOUTH, people.
Isn't that where all the people live who are supposed to prevent Barack Obama from becoming President live? Obviously the South isn't as racist or narrow-minded as some might think... ...ditto Iowa and the Midwest.

3. Open primary in South Carolina
People can vote in either primary but then they cannot vote in the other. Crossover votes cannot be discounted.

4. He lapped the Republican winner.
And he beat McCain and Huckabee combined. Obama can't be competitive down south in the GE?

6. I doubt that Obama's numbers would beat McCain if you pull out the black vote.
Come general election time, the Republicans outnumber Dems in SC by 3-1.

10. Why would we pull out the minority vote?
Should we pull out women's vote too?

13. Why? Higher turnout in the dem primary than the repug primary
Why would it be different come election time? Obama got 30% of the combined vote of the two primaries. That number is simply amazing.

You have to factor in more candidates in the Republican race. I hope I didn't spill your kool-aid.

12. You have to factor in higher turnout in the dem primary...
... in this "red" state. And the absolute majority of those broke out for Obama. I hope I didn't spill your kool-aid.

16. The question is why did they break for Obama....
maybe they had the same thoughts some folks here at DU in regards to the Michigan primary, cross over to vote for someone they consider weak or vulnerable (In the GE) in hopes of boosting that persons numbers. It does happen, you know. Not saying it happened here but lets not get too excited about the fact that more people voted in the Dem primary than did the Repub one.

17. Isn't SC an open primary state? Did many Republicans stay home
or did they vote in the Dem primary?
