They're Americans. This "lets brand Obama as the black president" thing is reminding me how little has really changed in this country.

1. Of course the media will analyze the vote in South Carolina
just like they analyzed it in the other states.

There's nothing wrong with analysis.

Obama has momentum now. I just hope he will truly do his best to treat all Dems with respect. He will need all of us in the general election.

I'm kind of hoping they keep at it. Looks like those they are trying to divide, are uniting against.

16. Setting the stage for the big showdown: blacks vs the latent bigotry of a large % of Americans
They're counting on it. If they can define him as the "Black President" it implies he doesn't support whites. I understand why you are excited about the turnout and building momentum, but the media are not trumpeting the stats because they're proud of black participation, they're beginning the process of creating an 'us vs them' mindset. Voting trends may be useful to campaign strategists and political scientists, but the hands pulling the strings of the MSM will use the information to segregate and exploit. Call me paranoid, but we've seen it before.

22. Subject: "If they can define him as the "Black President" it implies he doesn't support whites."
That statement is in itself dealing from the bottom of the race deck.

He would be a President who happens to be black. Hillary Clinton would be a president who happens to be a woman. Both will be the first ones in their race/sex to achieve the presidency. That is to be celebrated.

Too many elements involved with such historic events to permit the media to "segregate and exploit" anybody no matter who or what is pulling the strings.

Paranoid? Probably not. But almost.

25. That statement is my encapsulation of what I believe is their fucked-up evil strategy, that's all.
I do need to be less negative, the fact that we've actually gotten this far, MSM or not, is cause for celebration in itself.

27. Fucked up evil strategy?
Their evil strategy is more like keeping the primary process close for increased advertising revenue. Once Kerry started sweeping the primaries people lost interest until the swiftboaters appeared - now that was some fucked-up evil strategy, Coulda been from the media too, eh?

13. The total number is good to know
Blacks are one of the last reliably Democratic voting blocs in the country-- around 90%+ of African-Americans vote Democratic. The more African-Americans at the polls, the greater our chances of victory.

it's no big deal. Just another 'president'. Hence, no history making event, right? No "first black president" and all that....sounds good to me.

15. I do. Because the black vote must be protected like a precious gift.
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 11:13 PM by sfexpat2000
Because people died for that vote and because to this day, stolen elections are grabbed on the backs of suppressing, subverting or stealing black votes.

Hell yes, I care how many black people voted today.

ETA: And the Clinton's shamefulness doesn't change that.

17. Actually, I do
AAs tend to vote overwhelmingly Dem, WHEN they vote. Sad to say, but AAs don't always have the greatest turnout rates, just like the under 40 crowd. So while I am not an Obama fan, I would actually say that one of his strong points seems to bein getting traditionally underrepresented voters to the polls.

23. I'm sorry you feel that way OP
But I have never experienced Bill or Hillary being racists, ever. Bill got the majority support from AA's when he ran. He had many minority people in his cabinet. If people continue to call the Clintons racists even though it's not true, I wonder how that will look going into the GE?

even say it.

Not surprised, because that is exactly what Obama's campaign is doing. It is a shame that you embrace tactics that are worse than Willy Horton.

26. I have to agree Evergreen
The OP stating the Clinton's are racists may work to get Barack nominated but how will it effect him in the GE? My point being, I hate when the Clinton's are called racists, it saddens me to hear it when it's not true.
