I am proud of Obama, but WAYYYYY more proud of white America (Dems only), rejected Billary' spin
over the past week!!!

I feel so reassured, it was the white vote who gave Senator Obama his wide margin of victory!

If you love this country and you love the Democratic Party, you should celebrate tonight!

1. So true. It has been so depressing to see some of the polls especially that
idiotic 10% McClatchy poll.

5. Great
The media keeps trying to make this election about race. I'm glad the public isn't going along.

17. That's one of the best things about tonight

The press has been out of control trying to turn this into a race contest. They've been proven wrong.

A great moment this evening - on CNN, Bill Schneider and Soledad O'Brien began analyzing the exit polls to determine whether there was a "racial divide" in what voters saw as the most important issue in the campaign. They first looked at black voters' priorities: Economy 53%, Health Care 24%, Iraq 20%. Whoops, they said. That was the white voters' priorities. And then they put up the black voters' numbers - which were virtually identical! Glory be - white people and black people have the same priorities!

So much for the racial divide. :-)

However, I don't believe this is a rejection of "Billary" - not only would I never use that term to describe either or both of the Clintons, I don't think this was a repudiation of the Clintons at all, but a repudiation of the media spin.

18. "white America in South Carolina?"
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 08:14 PM by EffieBlack

But since you want to go there, 75% of Americans in South Carolina rejected Hillary Clinton. That's good?

Your continuing efforts to racialize this election, to trivialize black voters and to marginalize Obama are so pervasive and predictable, that you're becoming little more than a joke.

I can understand that tonight's results must have you pretty upset, given your predilictions, but you really should learn to deal with it. The world is changing and it's possible that people may actually sometimes come to power without a majority of white people agreeing to it. You'd better get used to it.

11. Damn right. This is a repudiation of Hill and Bill and their politics as usual.
Anybody got the raw exit poll data?

Seems like they're holding that data pretty close to their vests this time around.

I'll bet that's a good feeling, isn't it?

I've always said that Barack Obama gives white people an opportunity to feel good about themselves and the country - and that's a good thing - he appeals to the best in people and makes them want to show that we all can do better.

Sort of like the bumper sticker I recently saw: "Dear Lord, please make me the kind of person that my dog thinks I am!" I've seen lots of people - especially white folk - who are happy to have the opportunity to show that they are the kind of people they want thin they are.

At the same time, many black voters feel really good, not only about having the chance to vote for a black man, but that enough white people are also voting for him that he actually has a chance. The fact that so many black and white people are on the same page, on common ground, about this is a very nice thing to see - and can bring people even closer together.

{To the Obama Bashers: the foregoing is not the same as saying that people should vote for Obama just because he's black or that there's no substantive reason to vote for him. I'm just making an observation, so there's no need to work yourselves up into attac mode}

24. Why, so they can vote away their white guilt? Is that really progress?
Who gives a fuck? So are whites also not racist when they say Will Smith is their favorite actor?

Or do they still lock the doors of their car in working-class black neighborhoods. I'd put money on the latter.
