Just stop for one minute and listen to me......(please)
I know there is a lot of passion regarding politics here at DU. Most of us all feel strongly about one candidate or another. That's a good thing. It means we still care. After 8 years of bedlam and horror, we still get up every morning and we still give a damn about what happens to America and in America. We all think about others besides me, myself and I.

We all care about social issues, women's rights, civil rights, health care, America's position on the world stage, Iraq, Iran, the mid-east, etc. WE ALL STILL GIVE A DAMN.

Right now we have 3 very good candidates for President. Despite all the negativity, the mud-slinging, the hurt feelings, the high drama of the day........they are ALL THREE excellent candidates to hold the office.

Despite what many of you think, the world will not end if the candidate you favor most does not get the nomination. Just because you don't agree with a candidate on every issue should not be the last straw with you if they get the nomination. .....I know, I know, I know.........that you are passionate about certain things and they mean very much to you and your future and perhaps America's future. But sometimes what you want the most does take a while.....and sometimes you don't ever get it, yet you do go on. Sometimes things work out anyway and sometimes they don't. That's life people.

My point is this. Life is not going to come to an end and things are not going to go dark if the Democrat you want most to win the nomination doesn't get there. Hysterics and spreading the latest rumor du jour is not going to help. In fact it will probably make things worse.

Calm down. Celebrate that we are going to kick ass come November with whoever we put up.......because I still believe..............despite what happened in 2000 and 2004 that America eventually wakes up and realizes that we need to get started in a new direction.......and people Clinton, Edwards or Obama can either one take us in a better direction than anyone the Republicans put up. I think America already knows that. We need to start getting some positive things going because no matter what Democrat wins.......change is coming...for the better.

3. The WORST Democratic candidate is still light years ahead of the BEST
Republican one. It's important to remember that.

5. Nice post.
Chances are it won't get many reads since hyperbole and snarky attacks seem to merit the most attention around here.

I posted something similar after NH and 7 people responded. Big wow.

Attack, vitriolic responses and misinformation rule the boards. :puke: It's disheartening to say the least.

6. I know......but I still think believe.....
I know that people at DU are good people and I know we still care because otherwise we wouldn't be here. I am hoping that things will calm a bit by the convention and we can all work together no matter what to get back the things we have lost over the last 8 years and to start trying to repair the damage.

8. I like all three candidates
enough to be okay with any one in the general election. My first choice dropped out so I've pretty much tried to avoid the firefights. I don't have anyone on "ignore" but there are a few posters whose threads and posts I won't even bother to read.

I like our candidates - some of their supporters, not so much.

10. It all comes down to this, for me. I want a nominee who can beat the repub nominee.
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 04:10 PM by Blue State Native
It won't do us any good to nominate some one who can't win the GE. Bottom line.

I happen to think the person who can beat the repub nominee, is Edwards.

I don't think it's Hillary or Obama.

I could be wrong. However, I doubt anyone will be able too prove me wrong. Because the corprat media has already chosen who our front runners for us.

Which pisses me royally! x(

11. I think after the primaries we'll all come together
And fight for the nominee. Hard to believe right now, I know. Except for the most extreme, who will quit the Democratic party/not vote/write in their candidate, I think most of us will work hard for our nominee, whoever it might be. And I say that as a very strong, committed Edwards supporter. Of course I'll vote for him in the primaries, but I'll not only vote for, I'll work for the Democratic nominee.

Actually, this primary season isn't as vicious as some of the past primaries. We may not like it, but it's not unusual for candidates to go after each other. I think the media is playing up every little catfight because they love that stuff...they're bored with things like issues that matter to the American people.

12. I feel the same way......
And I have to say I think this field is much better than the field we put up in 2004. It's a stronger field. I personally would be happy with any of the 3. Somedays though it get's old when I pop in here and see so many of us trying to tear each other apart over things we won't even remember 3 months from now or even a day or two from now.

14. Could not agree more
Have only been active on this site for a few days and have been pretty much horrified by the infighting. I have been called ignorant, accused of being a right wing fear monger and a freeper (didn't even know what that was until I was called it) and generally dismissed because I expressed some reservations about one of the candidates. I will vote for whoever gets the nomination and be happy to do so. But it is terrifying to me that there are people who appear to share some of the same character traits as bigots and fundamentalists active on this site. What in the world is going on?

17. You're right about him being the only one who can win but he hasn't yet been rejected.
South Carolina is a totally meaningless oddity. No other state is anything like it...fortunately.

22. Game over? Shit, it ain't even halftime yet.
Granted, some of our best players left the field with "injuries". And for some reason there's two third-stringer candidates getting all the attention. But Edwards ain't out of the game yet.

The other two will give us four more years of the misery we've seen with a spineless Democratic Congress. No thanks, I want an opposition candidate.

25. "Right now we have 3 very good candidates for President."
NO WE DO NOT

Right now we have one very centrist, beltway-cronyism as usual, corporate financed candidate; one too new to know, heavy on silver-tongued speeches / light on substance, corporate financed candidate, and one candidate absolutely delivering the right message that America crucially leads, but lacking in record consistency.
