which candidate will deal with climate change the best?

the next five yrs. will be upside down and backwards re: weather and it's consequences.

which candidate is ready NOW to tackle climate change. and WHO will be the people that work with them on the continuing weather crisis.

that's what I want to know.

that's more important then the already important infrastructure problem.

1. I think you are right
climate change is happening a lot faster than predicted. I don't know which candidate will deal with the problem the best, but my criteria for dealing with it are these:

1. Must be willing to address the problem head on, and brainstorm multiple solutions

2. Must be willing to let go of a solution when it becomes obvious it isn't working

3. Must be willing to work internationally to solve the problem

4. Must be willing to make a stand for things that might be unpopular--our priority should be saving the planet, not making sure groups aren't inconvenienced

2. kick - but watch this thread die as there is no answer to the question

wish people would speak up and tell us what the candidates have planned to deal with weather crisis one after the other. food chains disrupted. water polluted.

Seriously

3. It is sad, isn't it?
I swear, we could have NY City drowning, water shortages everywhere, and there would still be those on DU who would be bickering about inconsequential things and not saying a thing about their candidate's positions.

4. None of them as the climate is irretrievably broken
the only thing that could even slow down anthrogenic climate change is to convince the developing world and China to cease all development immediately. That's not going to happen and no amount of recycled grocery bags is going to offset electricity generation, automobile ownership, or industrialization in China and India. You want to save the Amazon? Threaten Brazil and mean it. That's the only way.

Is it unfair that the West "got" to develop and the developing world won't? Yeah, it's unfair. But the survival of the planet is more important than people's lifestyles or even lives.

5. I think it will essentially be ignored by all of them
Please prove me wrong. I believe Gore was the only hope we had. There's some vague talk about reducing emissions by 2050...

8. they could still let us know who will be their weather crisis people
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:40 PM by donsu

if they don't destroy Homeland Security (homeland, loath saying that word) then they will have to place their people into HS right away or use neo cons for weather crisis.

to continue to use neo cons for anything is insanity.

6. So far, Edwards, it is on his top 5 things to do
In just about every speech he mentions environment, and that we have to start greening our future. He also has the endorsement of some environmental group, I forget which one. His speeches are always full of bullet points and environment is right up there with economy. In fact, he ties economy and environment together, as a way to get out of this mess.

9. Not Obama
Liquid coal is a carbon footprint nightmare.

Has he co-sponsored anything good in the Senate?
