Did a reply all with:
The email about Muslims from your friend, Some Person, found it's way into my in-box complete with the entire list of addresses he sent it to. I won't add you to any list and you'll not hear from me or anyone else again--unlike Mr. Person I hide all email addresses so no-one else will see yours and send you asinine emails.
That said, I felt compelled to comment.
It is appalling how little Americans know about world religions. It is even more appalling how little Christians know about Christianity. All of the questions asked about Muslims can be asked about Christians and answered the same way using the Bible as a source.
What does the Bible say about loyalty? Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me."
What does the Bible say about women? Ecclesiastes 7:26 "And I find more bitter than death the woman, . . . whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her."
Multiple wives? Abraham had two concubines, David at least 10, and Solomon 300.
Also appalling to me is the complete lack of understanding of our Constitution. Article VI, paragraph 3 reads, in part, "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." Further, Contrary to the whining of many, the United States was not founded by Christians or on Christian principles. As close as any of the Founding Fathers came to Christianity was George Washington who was a non-practicing Episcopalian. For the most part they were Deists or Theists and a few outright non-believers. Thomas Jefferson re-wrote the Bible leaving out all the references to miracles and mysticism. It was a pretty thin book when he was finished. Thomas Paine, among the most prolific authors among our founding fathers, wrote: " I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church." The Treaty of Tripoli, signed and ratified in 1797 says in no uncertain terms that the United States is not a Christian Nation. Article 11 of that document says, “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion . . . “ For what it is worth, no office hoolder is officially sworn in on a religious book. The oath of office is to support and defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. Bibles and the like are used in symbolic swearing ceremonies after the official oath is administered. As for Barack Obama, he has been an active member of the Trinity Church of Christ in Chicago for 20 years and used a family bible in his symbolic swearing in ceremony.
Finally, I'll end with a quote from my father, a wise and fair man, "Never hate a man just because of who he is. Get to know him first and find a good reason."
