Three way race in South Carolina in new Clemson poll with 36% undecided
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 07:15 PM by jackson_dem
Among Likely Democratic Primary Voters (± 4.6%)

27 Obama
20 Clinton
17 Edwards
36 Undecided

http://www.pollster.com/blogs/poll_clemson_university_south_2.php

If the trends continued a certain candidate may grab a big share of the undecided vote. :)

Racial breakdown

Blacks: Obama 43, Hillary 11, Edwards 2
Whites (extrapolated): Edwards 32, Hillary 29, Obama 11

The numbers aren't listed for whites but assuming a roughly 50/50 split we can extrapolate the numbers above.

1. The Clemson poll has a history of a very high undecided count

THats why I consider it an outlier because compared to all other polls, the undecided number is way out of whack.

5. Ah! Then this 45% percent undecided is what they usually see?

3. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like that NV "three way race" everyone was talking about
With the way polls are goiing lately, it wouldn't suprise me.

4. Holy shit.
The undecided are climbing! But this is weird:

"African-Americans are favoring Barack Obama (43 percent) over Hillary Clinton (11
percent) and John Edwards (2 percent), with 45 percent of African-Americans undecided or
refusing to express a preference. Of those who express a preference, Barack Obama leads all
candidates with a seven point lead over Hillary Clinton. Obama is getting over three-quarters of
the declared African-American vote in South Carolina; Clinton, 20 percent; and Edwards, 4
percent. In the previous Palmetto Polls, Clinton and Obama were splitting the black vote about
evenly, but now Obama has a clear lead among African-American voters."

45% undecided among African-American voters? But only 40% total undecided? Does that mean there are MORE undecideds in the black than in the white community? Is there a possibility of a reverse Bradley effect????????

Obama's 43% is solid, but 45% of the total black voters polled haven't been able to tell a polltaker that they will definitely vote for him.

Oh, I am so not making predictions for Saturday. This ball is still in play.
