Conversation with a 10 year old
The woman I have been seeing has a 10 year old kid and she has been saying that maybe he needs a male influence and guess who it is? Anyway, me and Doug have had some interesting conversations about football recently as I have been totally immersed in the Packers attempted title run. In fact, Doug was unhappy when we told him he couldn't go to a party at a friends house for the NFC Championship on Sunday.
But yesterday, he was talking about something they have been discussing in his school, and that is the upcomong presidential election. He asked me point blank who I was supporting. I replied, "John Edwards". When he asked me why, I told him that," Edwards represents regular people like your mom and me, as well as you. He is the one Democratic candidate who is sticking to talking about issues and we need him as President." Doug was somewhat taken aback as his best friend's parents are both Obama supporters and I tend to get excited about this stuff. I told him that Obama is a good man and Hillary is a good woman as well but under no circumstances should we have another republican in the White House anytime in the near future. He nodded and said, "That's what Jerry's (his friend's) dad says too."
So take heart people, no matter how much HRC and Obama tear into each other, I think that a Democrat will win the Presidential election this year, provided the election is clean. We also need a larger majority in the House and Senate, so we cannot rest. We must continue to work for our Democratic candidates. And this summer, when our candidate is decided, I'm taking Doug out with me to help out because he is interested in politics and grassroots activism is the best experience of all. Just tryin' to be a good male influence and all.

8. The election won't be clean. It's far too late for that now.
But I'm pretty sure that the GOP won't be able to steal enough votes even to come close to winning.

6. Thanks. I do my best
I ain't perfect by any means, but I figure if I can help this kid without screwing him up too badly, then I'm doing something right. Unfortunately, he is a St. Louis Cardinals fan. lol. Oh well, none of us are perfect.

7. Good job
Ten is a bit young to leave Doug to his own devices, but supply him with information and guide his thinking. The kid will learn some critical thinking skills, learn to look at as much information as he can gather, and reach his own conclusion. He will also learn to respect other points of view if you demonstrate or model that behavior, and it sounds from your account like you're doing that.
