Sorry to interrupt the food fight but the Judiciary committee bill without immunity
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 02:51 PM by cali
just got slammed, er, I mean tabled by a vote of 60 to 34. The usual suspects voted the usual way. And did Leahy just espouse LIHOP? This is what he said:

"They had the information and they could have stopped the terrorists and they didn't. So, let's not act in fear."

1. Has Leahy ever alluded to this before? I was shocked to hear
him say that so plainly.

3. not quite as plainly
he has alluded to it before on the call in show he does regularly on VPR, but I've never heard him say it on the Senate floor.

5. Another (sigh) Water is Wet, Fearful Democrats Cave, Bush Wins, headline.
60-34. Even with my poor mathematical skills, it tells me that a flock of Dems voted with the Repugs...again..and some didn't even bother to vote.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

6. You know the drill: Nelson, Bayh, Landrieu, Rockefeller
and sadly, Mikulski. I forget who else. Leahy did say he'd bring it back over and over again, in pieces if necessary.

8. All too well.
And, bravo for Leahy. One of the very, very, few politicians I have some respect for.
