Michelle Obama responds to Clintons' jabs

By Ben Szobody

Michelle Obama countered increasingly fierce criticism from Hillary Clinton’s campaign today in an impassioned speech at a Greenville restaurant, defending Barack Obama’s votes in the Illinois Senate, his experience and his ability to stand tough to Republicans.

"The one thing that is clear is that when power is confronted with real change, they will say anything," she said.

She also told nearly 100 local women at The Lazy Goat that when it comes to the difficulties they face balancing work and family, her husband is "one of the few people who gets it," in part because of her own dilemmas as a "regular person."

----

"So let me tell you, when people talk about Barack’s voting record in the state Senate, they will not talk to you about that because that would be too much information for you, wouldn’t it?" she said. "It’s much easier to focus on a few ‘present’ votes," instead of his work for "regular people" that "no other front-runner in this race can claim at all."

5. I thought this quote was particularly courageous.
"People always want to know the intricacies of candidates’ policies," she said, "but the truth is a lot of this stuff isn’t rocket science. We know what we need to do with public education because there are thousands of excellent public schools all over this country. We know what they look like, we know what they cost. Our problem is that they only exist for the fortunate few."

32. I suspect a pickle packer can't afford to have any dead weight on its board.
Pickles are not a notably high profit item! If she was there, she was working and earning her keep.

As someone who just paid off her school loans (with the help of the sales from Barack's books) and is looking ahead to paying for college for two daughters, I suspect Michelle is very much a "regular person".

10. the Obama's have class.
what I have seen and heard of them, they conduct themselves like mature adults - not jabby little pointy fingers and red frustrated noses like the Clintons.

would be great to have some class back in the WH, instead of handing it over to people that profit from class warfare.

11. Michelle is brilliant and she doesn't feel she has to lie..
"Michelle Obama never mentioned the Clintons by name, and she told The Greenville News afterward that despite the involvement of former president Bill Clinton in his wife's campaign, her role will remain "that of spouse," and that she's "not a politician."

She can distort as well as anyone. As far as Michelle just remaining "spouse" I give her that. But Bill is a former President, and he is a master politician. You have to be who you are, Michelle.

29. Power? What power?
Michelle is making a bugaboo of those in "power," but can she possibly be talking about the Clintons?

BO is a Senator just like HRC is. She has no more power than he. And WJC has influence, yes, but only because he has earned it through years of wonksmanship, hard work and solid decision-making. But he hasn't any real power, If he had, he could never have been made to testify about his sex life in a grand jury proceeding that -- against all precedent and common decency -- was broadcast on TV within an hour of its completion.

The Clintons do not have power these days. And when they DID have it they used it well, not for private profit, but for the greater good.

That's not allowed!

Oh wait, the Obama double-standard...anything he does is great, just effing great.

Anything Hilary does is just effing awful and out of bounds.

As for a "few" present votes, 150 is not a few. And if she thinks they should talk about his record, then she SHOULD mention specifics. She and BO are just parsers of words and spillers of platitudes.

45. Variety of reasons to vote Present
Not that Clinton or their supporters have any interest in facts, just their agenda featuring Sound bite political mudslinging...what goes around comes around!

Sometimes the “present’ votes were in line with instructions from Democratic leaders or because he objected to provisions in bills that he might otherwise support. At other times, Mr. Obama voted present on questions that had overwhelming bipartisan support. In at least a few cases, the issue was politically sensitive.

Hillary has some nerve bringing up Obama voting on a Bill he sponsored

TO SEAL SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIM'S RECORDS

Maybe Hillary and her supporters can do something to help the victims of Bill Clintons sexual assaults on women.

Something more than intimidating his victims, which Hillary already has done, or like Arkansas did just posting a sexual predator sign.

I guess living with a sexual predator (or idolizing one as Clinton supporters do) for so long must be desensitizing.

Is obama got some magic he uses to balance work and family......You see her fault there...I see it and so should you....she used work first then family.....I would think family would come first, but then again obama has that special potion he uses....

what the hell is regular people? People that eat enough ruffage and fiber in their diets are the ones I call regular people. I myself am one of those regular people....uh huh have to be having about 30 grams of fiber each day.....
