6. I feel a lot more confident about our chances in '08 than I did in '04.
Not necessarily because of the candidates, but because of the trends. We did very well in '06, picking up seats at all levels of government. Democratic self-ID is up, Republican is down, and Independents seem to be leaning more left. All good indicators, regardless of the name at the top of the ticket.

11. The sad thing is that Hillary should have ran in 2004 instead of Kerry
Up against Bush, even I would have voted for her.

And I cant stand her!

Would have saved this country 4 years of W too.

14. Why do you supposed she didn't?
Oh yeah, because it's next to impossible to defeat a sitting president in a time of war.

You would not believe the number of idiots who said we should vote for Bush so he can clean up his own mess. That one line probably cost the election.

Hillary would have done much worse because she was saying we should "stay the course" all year long. If she'd kept her mouth shut, he may have been able to run a more cohesive anti-war campaign and won that way too.

The Clintons are the architects of the ridiculous split the difference politics that has gotten us so many of the problems, including Iraq.

Oh bullcrap.

For all his faults Kerry came close.

Are you saying that someone like Hillary with her name recognition (something Kerry didnt have before the nomination outside the NE) wouldnt have made that little bit of difference, enough to beat Bush compared to Kerry?

I think the Clinton's thought like you, but that was born more from cowardice than pragmatism.

22. Uh, 75% of the country is pissed at Republicans today
and we're still talking about the difficulty in beating them. That wasn't the case in 2004, and Kerry came damn close. He came close because of his years of service, his foreign policy experience, his military experience, and the commitments of a lifetime that paid him back when the time came. Hillary doesn't have that in the same way Kerry does, not even today. 3/4 of the country hates her guts. I don't see that getting better.

Regardess, cowardice or pragmatism, they chose not to run in 2004 because they knew the task was almost insurmountable.

12. much better this time
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 11:21 PM by jzodda
1. no incumbent and the power that comes with that
2. situation all around is far worse then it was in 2004 as opposed to better
3. angry and energized dems, lost angry puppy repubs
4. administration in power has a lower approval rating then the KKK grand wizard, or at least close :D

So I am very optimistic. We would have to mess up so badly to lose this time around.

13. DU was as hateful towards Kerry then
as they are towards Obama now, and that hate has proven to be completely unfounded. He has continued to fight for every single thing he said he would fight for.

And if you have evidence Bush stole the election, how he did it, and who he did it with, you need to take it to the FBI otherwise you're an accomplice after the fact. (In other words, stfu)

23. The only evidence I have about 04
is listening to testimony from disenfranchised voters in Ohio. These voters stood in the rain for up to 8 hours waiting and wanting to VOTE. SOS Blackwell (( chairman of the Bush/Cheney re(S)election committee )) knew where to use supply and demand polling. There were plenty of machines in the repthuglicons precincts, Democratic precincts, not so much.

Young college voters, black voters, and I'm sure there are other minority groups that were disenfranchised in Ohio.
Votes being counted in the secret because of a fictitious terror alert @ a repuglicon precinct.
Electronic machines with NO verifiable paper trail.

There was no way in hell Kerry could have contested that (S)election. Especially after what happened in Florida.

Speaking of Florida. I witnessed testimony by African Americans who testified before the Civil Voting Rights hearings. Again when you have the SOS (( chairwoman of the Bush/Cheney (S)election committee and in charge of the final say in who gathers the states electorates, well let's just say there is all kinds of mischief that will ensue.

Peace

21. I hate Rodham-Clinton and don't care much for Obama
But I do like Ron Paul and agree with Nader that America needs a Ron Paul enema. He is the only candidate besides Dennis J. Kucinich who inspires confidence in me. With Dennis' support so censored by the fascist, corporate media, I am impressed with the most successful, most courageous free thinking, unbought candidate in the pack, Ron Paul.

This election is looking so dismal on the whole, I doubt very seriously if I'll ever want to return to the demo side of the Republicrat party, the two headed single party entity that exists in this country.
