NJ State Senate President endorses Edwards
Richard Codey: Why I'm supporting John Edwards
Sunday, January 20, 2008
BY RICHARD J. CODEY

WHEN I THREW my hat in the ring behind John Edwards, I did so because I truly believe that he has the best chance of any candidate to win the general election and take back the White House. John Edwards has unique cross-over appeal, that uncanny ability to retain the core Democratic vote, while at the same time attracting Southern voters.

...

But my reasons for backing John go far beyond just the numbers game.

Our best chance of reversing the disastrous course we are on is to elect someone who will put an end to the shoot-first, think-later policies of the Bush administration. Someone who bases policies on thoughtful and sound intelligence, instead of a self-prescribed moral destiny. Someone who will lead the Democratic Party out from under the shadow of uncertainty, and unify our country.

...

He was the first candidate to unveil a plan for universal health care, and he has backed that plan up with a firm promise. If elected president, he will spend his first day in office submitting legislation that will end health care coverage for the president, all members of Congress and all senior political appointees in the legislative and executive branches unless Congress enacts universal health care reform.

Unlike the health plans of other candidates, John's will not leave out 15 million Americans, nor will it be beholden to the influence of health care and pharmaceutical lobbyists.

More at link, great endorsement...

2. Richard Codey was acting Gov when Corzine had that horrible car
accident. He is very popular, sometimes I think more so than the Gov. Good for JE..

4. Its DC Dems vs State & Local Dems
Dems who are dealing with the Bush mess at the state level know how serious economic, job and health care problems are. They also know better who will get the job done.

These state level endorsements say a lot about this race and who will really get things done.

6. I'm glad to see that people still have guts.
He could have went with the others, but stuck for Edwards. That's fantastic.

11. Go Codey!
I know I wasn't the only one who was pissed when he didn't run for a full term as Gov.

12. Codey is a good guy.
I'm surprised Edwards got an endorsement like this considering his campaign is comatose.

15. A lot of Dem leaders disagree
especially those on the front lines trying to help their states struggle through unemployment, rising poverty and uninsured.

16. Codey's a great catch Edwards supporters.
There were many people here in NJ who wanted him to run for Gov. He was acting Gov a few times in our state. Great endorsement.
