Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 02:59 PM by mtnsnake
Who would have been qualified and electable at the same time, maybe even as much as, or more so, than anyone we have running right now?

In retrospect, is there someone who fits the bill?

(on edit: changed should to could in the title)

1. Senator Russ Feingold
He would have had my absolute support in the coming election campaign.

41. Dean is the reason I became a full-fledged Democrat...
...but I think he likes being chair of the DNC too much to consider giving it up for another run at this point in time. It's that Aesop fable of giving up a sure thing for a possibility.

Do a damn fine job of it, too.

6. In my dream world
Kerry wouldn't have run in 2004 and would have in 2008, when I think he would have been better positioned to win the general.

Other than that, I would have like to have seen how a Warner campaign would have played out....most of the folks I have my eye on are a little green for 2008.

8. Brian Schweitzer, Governor of Montana
Check him out some time. He ran as a populist progressive in one of the reddest states in the country and won a large victory. He is plain spoken and avoids the nuance that gets east coast Democrats into so much trouble with the party base.

He represents what should be the party's future. We've had enough of its past.

30. Definitely one of the more interesting choices. I don't know much about him
but these are the kinds of poeple, the lesser known ones, who can come right out of no where sometimes if they've got what it takes.

But I have no need to revisit that path not taken now. We have several good candidates who are running who we still have to choose between. If a Republican ends up in the White House after the 2008 elections, that is when I will be interested in having a long discussion on this topic.

A breath of fresh air compared to Terry McAwful.

22. This is true.
But I believe the country as a whole would be much better off right now if he had been President since January 20, 2005. And he would have crushed Chimp in the General.

choices. Maybe Dean will consider running again sometime. He's not that old is he?

Having predicted 9-11 and written extensively about homeland security, Hart can go toe-to-toe with any fear mongering Repuke like Rudy.

Hart also opposed invading Iraq and advised Senate Democrats not to vote for the IWR!

21. Howard Dean.
I think he agreed not to run, upon becoming the DNC head. But I still believe he would make a great president. Had he won in 2004, he would have taken this country off of its current path toward fascism. The corporate "powers that be" knew that, when they killed his campaign.
