1. The only thing is...
That's not the base of the democratic party.

Obama will have to appeal to older voters or he doesn't have a chance.

17. Sorry, friend but African-Americans are the most reliable base in Dem party
they vote 90% plus for the nominee usually. If they don't turnout in November for Hillary because of race politics she can kiss any chance of winning goodbye.

25. But they are no longer the "biggest" base of "reliable" voters.
Hispanics are not yet a "reliable voting base" for Dems, but after the immigration shit hits the fan, they will be leaning that way. The damage that this election will do to the unity of the black vote will make them null and void for the next several elections to come unless they can get themselves together once again. That's how the Rovians have planned this. And yes, there are Rovians within the Dem party...most people just don't know that. They are good at what they do.

how do we win in Novemeber with a nominee who depends inordinately on older white and Hispanic female registered Democrats?

2. Which is why he will do well in Super Tuesday states
in the South.

Clinton seems to win where Dems traditionally do well, Obama is winning where we DON'T. That alone should be cause to look at him as the most viable candidate.

5. You seem to be having trouble reading numbers today, wyld.
Perhaps too much celebratory champaign.

How do you see GA shaking out? With the AJC - Obama endorsement coming out tomorrow...it should be interesting on Feb. 5.

19. Obama's supporters could help close that gap by treating boomers with more respect.
Time and again I've posted here that it's counter-productive for Obama's supporters to bash boomers, gay people, and all the other folks they think "don't matter."

In an election everyone matters.

14. oh yeah we vote, us boomers
the old farts are the most important demographic. Since i turned 60, some places offer me senior citizen discounts. But we have a big personal interest in things like medical care, and Hillary has always been a champion of medical care for all. the fact is most people don't vote ideology, they vote their personal best interest.

10. So in other word. Obama generates increased interest from
voter groups that are the hardest to normally get out; young people, Independents, and African Americans.

Meanwhile, Hillary attracts people that will vote for a Dem in the GE anyways.

18. It looks that way, which is very interesting and good for the Democratic Party.
Instead of watching supporters of Hillary and Obama bash one another and the others' candidates, I wish that more Democrats would notice what is very obvious - between the two of them they appeal to EVERYONE.

That's huge for the Democratic Party.

12. Did HRC win Nevada? Yep. Now lets move on and try not to
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 06:08 PM by BenDavid
look deep into the numbers..cause one to need a few excedrins...All I know is this opens the door for Nevada to be in Play in November and with a large latino turnout that puts into play Arizona and New Mexico. Now, if HRC happens to win those three in November and keeps all teh blue states from 04 there my friends you have the new president of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton....

21. I live in NM
Hillary will kick ass in a way that Kerry never could. NM will go Clinton in a big way, esp if Richardson is #2. We have an excellent Lt Gov so she would be a good replacement for Bill.

20. If Hillary is nominee she will need to bring Obama on ticket
1) She will need an excited African-American base
2) He has demonstrated more strength with independents than she has
3) He does better with younger voters
4) He brings excitement and big crowds

26. NV voters who consider themselves very liberal:
52% for Hillary; 36% for Obama.

My perception is that Hillary is much more liberal/progressive than Obama.

But it seems to me that many DUers do not share my perception.
