10. Oh, I think it would be awesome if Huckabee won South Carolina.
Adds to Republican Primary unrest and indecision.

A Huckabee win is like returning to the top of the batting order that started in Iowa. I'd love it!!

14. I agree.
McCain would be the toughest to beat for dems.

15. The SC winner is historically the nominee. And I don't know
if we can prevent another theft.

5. If i'm not mistaken...
SC uses a closed primary system so, technically, they are all repugs.

16. I think you're right. McCain relies in "independents" so I'd bet on "evangelical sharia" Huckabee

4. I think it will be very close between Huck and McCain
I'm surprised at the veteran numbers--only 36% for McCain--hardly overwhelming.

6. The independent numbers are interesting...
And worrisome should the general election be Clinton/McCain

South Carolina Turnout: Tough on Immigration, Lots of Evangelicals?

The last round of exit polling I saw, from midafternoon, had it McCain 32 percent, Huckabee 28 percent, Romney 16 percent, and Thompson 15 percent. Earlier in the day it had McCain and Huckabee neck and neck...

But check out this description of the voters from exit polls, just out from AP:

"Preliminary figures from exit polls of voters showed that conservatives and white evangelical and born-again Christians were turning out heavily, and that Republican voters said a candidate who shares their values was most important. That all boded well for Huckabee, the one-time Southern Baptist preacher with solid social conservative credentials, and poorly for McCain, who has a rocky relationship with hard-right voters despite a right-leaning Senate voting record on issues they care most about.

Also troublesome for McCain: GOP voters ranked illegal immigration as their second-most important issue behind the economy. And, just over half said illegal immigrants should be deported. McCain has drawn fire from parts of his party for backing an eventual path to citizenship for millions of immigrants in the country illegally."

That, at least on paper, doesn't sound like an ideal turnout for McCain...

9. Whew, that young go-getter Thompson boy ...
... is like a house-on-fire, ain't he?

Looks like the Great White Hope, salvation of the Republican party, is a shoe-in - just as predicted!

12. These numbers are devastating for Thompson
He is likely to be a solid fourth. If the Evangelical numbers are correct Huckabee is leading 21.73 to 14.31 a 13.42 margin which has to be made up by the other 47% of the vote. That translates to a 28.55% margin. Something he isn't even pulling among independents or vets where he should be. This looks very good for Huckabee.
