Whoo-hoo! Huckabee is leading in South Carolina in the latest ARG poll!
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 01:55 AM by Heaven and Earth
Mike Huckabee leads among Republicans with 37%, followed by John McCain and Fred Thompson with 22% each. McCain leads among self-described independents with 48%.

How is Huckabee doing it? Like this:

Mr Huckabee, who calls himself a “Christian candidate”, brought up the taboo subject of the confederate flag while speaking to supporters in the resort of Myrtle Beach on Thursday.

“You don’t want anyone from out of state coming down and telling you what to do with your flag,” he said of a controversy that split South Carolina down racial lines until the flag was removed from atop the state legislature eight years ago.

“In fact, if somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag we’d tell them where to put the pole.”

His message to the state’s deeply conservative white voters was reinforced with radio advertisements stating: “John McCain assaults our values, Mike Huckabee understands the value of heritage.”

Things couldn't be going better in the Republican primary...for Democrats! If Huckabee wins SC, and Romney wins NV, as both could easily do, maybe (just maybe) Rudy Giuliani can squeak by McCain in FL. Or not, but even so, the longer the Republicans remain disoriented, the better, even if McCain does end up with the nomination. In the meantime...Go Huckabee! Go Romney! Go Giuliani!

1. Is this really good?
Yeah, sure, he probably can't win the general election, but do you really want to take that chance? The dude's right out of The Dead Zone

4. Yes, yes, it is.
Huckabee gets crushed by all three of the top candidates. I'd rather face Huckabee or Romney than John McCain. Of course, John Edwards does the best!

15. You're probably right, but.
If the Christian Reconstructionists get into power, it's all over. We're talking boxcars and ovens.

7. Huckabee's campaign can't get donors
I've been watching his latest fundraising drive, and the results are terrible. He wants to raise 10 million by Feb. 5, but from the looks of things, he's gonna end up about $5 million short. OOPS!

9. I wouldn't worry.
I can't imagine many Democrats supporting Huckabee, and there are several prominent Republicans skewering the guy daily.

If he's the nominee, there will be many Republicans sitting on their hands instead of going out to vote.

12. Huckabee is the Republican George McGovern.
The Republican party bosses hate Huckabee, just as Democratic party bosses hated McGovern. If Huck's the nominee, we're talking Nixon in '72 levels of victory for any of our three candidates.

2. Frankly. Huckabee scares the shit out of me.
It's like watching 2000 all over again. I watched in disbelief as the chuckling chimp captured the nomination and the Presidency.

The only bright side is that the Republicans ARE really fractured this time around.

16. You couldn't be any more Right..
The thought of false Christian Values leading the way in an 2008 campaign is quite scary. Who in their right mind thought George Bush would win more than just a hand full of states. Bill Clinton's BJ caused alot of damage to the Democrat party. And the GOP took those lessons and hit a home run with em. Of course, it took Jeb, the FL supreme Court and God. Talk about pulling out all the stops.
Personally, I'm a Ron Paul fan. But I have seen since before the 2006 elections that the GOP has completely lost their minds. And the GOP's top tier candidates are morons with a good pitch. But, they fail to realize that the GOP was thrown out of the game and now it's over for them.
What bothers me about the top democrat candidates, is that I don't believe we can afford a National Health Care Plan, or to continue to pay for this war. And none of the Top Democrats will promise to have all troops out of Iraq by the end of their term in 2012. Not to mention, their lack of interest for our borders and immigration policies.
I don't think the USA needs "Comprehensive Immigration Reform". Thats just another way of saying we're gonna change the laws. I say, enforce the laws that we have. Amend the 14th amendment to end the birthright citizenship for illegals. Build the fence and man the fence with our National Guard. And STOP the welfare for illegals.

I'm so glad to be Independent. It's like a huge wait lifted off my shoulders not having to defend a political party.

Frankly, the amount of money we waste on inefficient private insurance, we can't afford NOT to have a national healthcare plan. You are quite right that we cannot afford this war, and it must end.

Keep in mind that the first Europeans in America were illegal immigrants, too. People who come here illegally now want a better life, just as the first European-Americans did, and who can fault them for that? Unfortunately, they are exploited into a permanent underclass by the corporations who profit from their suffering and fear.

23. It's SC
Wait until Huckabee meets Feb 5th. Sadly, that's his Waterloo. Wish he could get the nomination, but he can't. Remember Iowa? Multiply that by at least 10. Huck is a fringe candidate.

symbol of slavery, oppression, civil war, death and White Supremacy ala KKK, from their capitol building. Are the Republicans of South Carolina that stupid, uneducated and regressive? And he calls himself a minister of the gospel of Jesus? A gospel of peace and love of God and neighbor? And saying that he would sodomize someone with a flag pole who doesn't agree with them? He represents everything that is wrong/evil with the Neo-Cons, Fundamentalists, Racists and Bigots, that make up the Republican Party.

But he can't win in the general election. Even against John Edwards. The GOP has lost their way. The NEOCONS have destoryed them from the top down.

A president Huckabee scares the shit out of me more than any other possible scenario, including 4 more years of Shrub.

This guy is dangerous. Literally.

26. Not so fast
I spoke with a friend of mine who is an independent, and she said that the only Repube she likes is Huckleberry. "He is kind and caring, and he's funny." I think Mike will appeal to alot of "not so concerned about the fine details" voters.

Be careful what we wish for.

29. Ron Paul is my favorite
He doesn't seem to be Democrat or Republican. At least not todays Republican NEOCON. Huckleberry is too soft on immigration, wants to amend the constitution to reflect the bible and he isn't called "tax Hike MIke" for nothing. Says he wants to do away with the income tax. Which I think is a good idea. Only he will replace it with at least a 25% increase in sales tax. But the fact of the matter is, he has been Governor of a state that has a state income tax. And he hasn't once tried to do away with that.

Ron Paul wants to do away with the income tax and replace it with nothing. And if the Government would cut it's spending back to where it was when Clinton left, it would be very possible. But, cutting spending on Corperate and foreign welfare would have be #1 priority. Then deport the illegals in our prison system and elimiate the welfare for illegals.

I think if Huckabee wins South Carolina, the GOP is well on its way to a brokered convention.
