Former GOP Congressman Charged With Conspiracy; Aiding Terrorists!!!
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 11:03 PM by mrdemocrat78
HOLY SHIT!

Is it possible that the conspiracy theorists were right?

From Raw Story;

Mark Deli Siljander, a Michigan Republican when he was in the House, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.

A 42-count indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo., accuses the Islamic American Relief Agency of paying Siljander $50,000 for the lobbying — money that turned out to be stolen from the U.S. Agency for International Development

2. I'm gonna risk calling this story bogus
The charity is "guilty" of sending 280k to a guy in paksitan running an orphanage. That guy has never been charged with supporting terrorism and there's no evidence thta he has.

However, the Senate declared this charity as a terrorist organization. The charity was never charged and no evidence exists.

They hired this ex-congressman to try to lobby on their behalf, but may have used improper funds from USAID to do so.

Now, 5 people at the charity are being charged on financial improprieties all stemming from accusations around terrorism... but no charges around terrorism exist.

This ex-congressman is being charged with the financial crimes of the charity, even though he was not involved or named in any of those actions.

The entire thing is totally absurd unless they are hiding some serious evidence.

At worse, the charity misused USAID funds to hire a lobbyist... based on what's presented in the media.

3. Remember, allegations aren't evidence
Although it is rather surprising that he hasn't been declared an enemy combatant and whisked off to a secret CIA prison somewhere to confess to everything from supporting Al Qaeda to kidnapping the Lindbergh baby.
