Poll question: Would you like to see the return of the "30 strikes and you're out" rule?
In the 2004 primary, there was a rule that if you had 30 deleted posts or locked threads, you were tombstoned. Would you like to see a return of this rule?

Let me add that this isn't some request to the administrators, I just want to see what people would think of it in this climate.

1. What is the rule now? 30 is incredibly generous IMO. nt.

4. I don't know. I've been thread-stalked and sexually harassed and nothing's happened to them.
I still have a group of like five people that are very attracted to my threads and like to repeatedly dole out personal attacks and they don't act like they even get warned.

3. No.
It's simple enough to ignore someone if their words bother you so much.

6. Puts a huge amount of pressure on the mods
They would basically determine whether someone gets TSd. That's something best left to judgment rather than some arbitrary formula.

7. No one can make you break the rules but you though.
I think I had maybe three posts deleted or locked the entire primary season. 30 is very generous.

8. mods aren't computers. They often make many judgment calls
Do you want to be TS'd because a mod didn't get that you were joking? I've had a few posts deleted just joking around with a buddy and not having a mod really get the humor. I've also had threads locked that descended into flame wars long after I abandoned them.

That's the problem with these kinds of authoritarian rules. They often err on the side of keeping order at the expense of a free exchange of ideas. The admins do a pretty good job of deciding who needs to be TSd. Inflexible rules would do a far worse job.

10. There are many different reasons why...
threads are locked and posts are deleted - and not all of them may be "bad" necessarily. Taking away discretion is, IMO, a bad idea; sort of akin to mandatory minimum sentences.

11. IMHO 30 deleted posts and/or locked threads is too generous
there are some disruptors on here that are deliberately hurling flamebait. When you click on their profile, they have no personal info at all. I think they are fucking trolls.

14. It depends.
If it's people I find annoying, get rid of them immediately. If I think they are either amusing or informative, cut them some slack. That seems the only fair way to handle this.

15. Locked Threads , IMHO, Are Much, Much Worse Than Deleted Posts
Most deleted posts come from saying something prohibited in the heat of an argument...You can go back and find two people in an argument and probably delete ten posts in one thread...

I have had two threads deleted in five years here... One thread was deleted at my own request because I had a key fact very, very wrong...The other thread was because I cited a site that we aren't supposed to mention at this board...I only cited that site to ridicule it...
