Edwards supporters: What did you do to elect Edwards today?
I am volunteering for Edwards every single day. After I finished my workday, my husband and I drove to a house to deliver a yard sign. After that, we canvassed in our neighborhood -- knocking on doors from a precinct list. We left Edwards brochures at houses where people were not home, and we talked to several voters.

Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours tabling, and before that I walked my precinct. Those of us who support Edwards cannot rely on somebody else, somebody who is being paid to get out there and talk to voters about our candidate. We have to do it ourselves.

A lot of DUers complain about how the corporate media controls everything. OK, this is your chance to have a little control. Get out there and start campaigning. Don't just march down the street surrounded by like minded rebels. Don't just sit at home and watch TV and fret about the whether your candidate is getting a fair shake. Get out there and talk to your neighbors. Talk to the little old lady who lives down the street. Talk to the kid who looks like a gangbanger. Ask them to consider your candidate. Give them his website address. Offer to bring a yardsign. Remind voters to think and do some research on their own before they vote. That's democracy. That's taking your country back. Don't get mad, get active.

I'm writing all the time about what I am doing for Edwards. It's not because I want to brag. It is to try to motivate people to do the same thing. If I can do it, you can. Please just start. And start now. It will soon be too late. And if you have not done everything you can to support Edwards, you will feel horrible if he does not win. And rightfully so. When he decided to limit his campaign to public money, Edwards put his trust in you.

Please state below what you are doing to make sure Edwards is the Democratic nominee. If you aren't doing anything explain why. I also gave money, so don't forget if you have done that, that's important too. But it isn't enough unless you can't do more for some reason. I want to hear from Edwards supporters. I want to hear what you are doing other than posting on DU.

1. Today?
Besides writing THIS?

I worked a full day and then came home. I don't talk about politics at work. It's not a wise move. Not in the least.

3. Do you have time this weekend?
By the way you are a great writer. I take it you write stuff outside of DU. I think you posted on it. If you have time, could you send me a private message about anything you may have published. Thanks.

16. Why not check out my website, if you haven't already?
http://www.sajewilliams.com

If I wasn't falling asleep in my chair right now, I *would* send you a PM that would probably read like one of my promo posts...LOL

But the website would probably give you the best overview you could get.

Thanks for asking, though.

Oh, and :kick:

5. I would appreciate it if people would keep this kicked.
Encouraging people to work for Edwards is the most important thing we can do now. Personal contact makes all the difference.

Writing is great, but people are overwhelmed by media information. Personal contact is the key.

6. I've reached several people through my writing.
And by speaking to people directly. My Mother-In-Law is supporting Edwards and my father is certainly leaning that direction. But I don't find myself in a lot of social situations where talking politics is particularly appropriate.

8. I can understand that. You really write so well.
I think Edwards also has a letter writing project on his website. At least some of the Edwards meet-up or One Corps groups have letter writing opportunities.

I was extremely, extremely shy. I wrote, but not fiction -- as a grant writer and a lawyer. In my high school yearbook, one of my classmates wrote the note, "Why won't you read your writing in class?" I was too shy to even read what I wrote to my classmates. Through volunteering in campaigns, I gained a lot of confidence and discovered that I am really effective in talking to people. So, by doing something for a good cause, some people discover talents they did not know they had. Anyway, I understand where you are coming from. Everybody does what they can. I want to give people the courage to take action if they possibly can.

During the 2004, I really worked for Kerry/Edwards. I walked three precincts the weekend before the election. After the election was over, I was heartbroken, but I had the satisfaction of knowing I had done everything I could. I think that is why I am rather bitter and and angry that Kerry did not challenge the results in Ohio. I have said unkind things about Kerry on DU. I really do not respect him for being afraid of confronting the election fraud.

9. I often cross-post to the John Edwards blog.
I requested the 9th off to go to the Washington State Caucus on the 9th. I am thinking about submitting some pro-Edwards LTTEs to the local papers in the last couple weeks leading up to it.

10. Great. LTTEs are the most effective form of written communication.
You should be really good at LTTEs. I wish you every bit of success with them.

11. It's the word limit that usually hurts me.
I can write concisely enough, but some topics are hard to cram into a few hundred words or less.

12. Same here. LTTEs are my favorite part of the paper.
That's what I read first. Good luck.

13. Me too.
Then I move on to the comics.

If I feel like reading any farther, I peruse the 'A' section and anything else that catches my interest. The only part of the paper that I don't ever bother reading is the Sports section.

anti american pro outsourcing record, and all the money she made doing it. Silicon Valley isn't an old mill but it was the economic engine while manufacturing was here, then she and Bill helped deliver that to India.

4. Go to Edwards' website and see if you can volunteer for
something. I think the Edwards campaign is signing people up to go to Nevada right now. It sounds like a lot of fun. I have to see how my precinct walking is going, but I might go over and join that effort. I try to live up to my commitment. I have walked my precinct in past elections. I'm actually getting to know some of the voters personally. It is great fun. So, get out there and get active. Writing is great, but talking to people wins elections. We Edwards folks can't rely on the media.

Regardless of what happens in Edwards' campaign, I would encourage Edwards supporters to learn how to get out of the house and talk to voters. It is a wonderful experience in and of itself.

garage. I still have of Kerry/Edwards stuff from last time round ! No yard signs are out yet in my area anywhere for anybody, so we'll be getting signs and bumper stickers out starting next week :-)

17. Good point! Edwards reminded us in his last debate in N.H.
that college graduates are going to be seriously harmed by the outsourcing. Edwards proposes to change the student loan laws to make education less costly.

15. I wish I were doing more ...
I guess it counts as today - I sent out the emails to the media asking for balanced reporting. It was either after midnight last night or the night before. I wore my Edwards pin and had a long conversation with a (cute but too young) guy in line at the airport last week. I will wear it when I fly tomorrow, as well. I had my car parked publicly with my bumper sticker on it for the week that I was away. None of this is much. Life has just gotten more hectic and as much as I am dying to go to Nevada and help the campaign, business is calling me to the other side of the country.

Almost all of my friends are Edwards fans and my job is to keep them encouraged because they don't believe he has a chance. Only one is a Hillary fan and he's die hard!!

I have donated but not enough. This season has been hard - I just don't have time OR money - usually I have one or the other!!
