Clyburn statement regarding SC pimary, released this evening
Tonight, Mr. Clyburn issued this statement:

“There are many things I have fought for in my life, and first and foremost is my belief that every man, woman and child should be given an equal opportunity to succeed. That is my guiding principle in the upcoming South Carolina Democratic Presidential primary. I told the D.N.C., the South Carolina Democratic Party and the South Carolina General Assembly that I would do everything I could to ensure this first in the South primary is a success. My position and my focus remain the same, and I have conveyed that to the campaigns of Senators Obama, Clinton and Edwards.

“I encourage the candidates to be sensitive about the words they use. This is an historic race for America to have such strong, diverse candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.

I want what is best for South Carolina and the nation – a successful South Carolina primary and a strong Democratic nominee.”

4. "And," he continued: "if anybody dares to criticize Obama, I will
distort your statement and shout RACISM from the rooftops."

5. Don't you realize it looks like he is going to stay neutral?
But go ahead get your licks in on him anyway, that is how most Clinton's DU supporters operate.

9. Obama is playing the race card: Do not fool yourself.
He is not neutral. He first distorted what Clinton said, and then shouted Racism. That was a political move by Obama to call attention to race while in SC.

10. 1) Obama is not playing the race card and 2) this is about Clyburn who is staying
neutral.

11. You do not think Obama was behind Clyburn's attack on Clinton?
It is politics. Dirty, ugly, politics. And you all complain about Clinton.

21. NO! Easy for you to call from where you are isn't it? What do you know about SC Representatives??
Or Representative Clyburn? I am from SC and I can tell I would have given anything for Clyburn's endorsement of Obama. He called the Clintons' comments for what they were....downright shameful IMO. And gave Hillary a break. She should be grateful! And your attack on Clyburn is shameful. Goodbye...I see you need to be added to my list of people who are a waste of my time.

19. Another piece
of false crap. You are beginning to look really sleazy. Please post a link to Obama playing the race card, or be shown for what you evidently are.

6. A sensible approach.
Perhaps the campaigns, and the media, could learn a thing or two from this.

16. Good on Rep. Clyburn
Hopefully cooler heads prevail. I am afraid this is going to continue to snowball and damage the party and nation long-term. Bill Clinton's statement today is disturbing and will inevitably produce a backlash unless Clyburn's wise words are heeded by the campaigns.
