Why Hillary and Obama supporters need Edwards to stay in...
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 01:39 PM by Heaven and Earth
I know the other candidates aren’t idiots, and I’m assuming they have decided that an angrier and more populist approach isn’t viable with the general electorate. As other diarists and commenters have pointed out, both are handicapped by stereotypes if they get angry: bitch or angry black man. Both stereotypes will play very well to the Republican base and will be used—our candidates don’t need to provide more YouTube fodder for the swiftboaters. Both must also beware of being too populist, otherwise big money will attack them, probably fatally.

Secretly, Hillary and Obama may feel just as angry as John Edwards, as we all feel, but they can't show it. John Edwards speaks for them, too, just as he speaks for me, and for everyone who doesn't have an eight figure bank account.

3. And Joe Lieberman
is a secret Dem now too. And they have a secret plan to migrate all the good and just to pollution
free Alpha Centauri. What you see is what you get. They are not secret about the types of anger or 'disagreements" they have with the other side and what has been done to them. But they sure as shooting don't have a populist progressive bone in their Third Way ideology. The reason it is certainly because of the self-fulfilling judgment the people must not be presented with things that are too contrary to a deeper status quo that is as much fantasyland as Bush's odd dystopian plans. the various rational errors and missed points are tragically consistent and the money flow keeps seeming to reward or affirm their tenets- despite all the losing and all the horrible policy results.

it is Obama who went so far as to say that Bush hasn't done anything all that bad to consider impeachment. That is pretty open. A smarter secret would have been to stick with the futility/utility ploy that is self-fulfillng because it is enforced by the legislative leaders. Edwards has signaled accountability intentions but has no plans evidently when running to push the Congress on impeachment at all. I doubt the other two can imagine anything other than simply letting go like with irresponsible maganimity or nobless oblige, like Bill did with the crimes of Bush I that came back to bite him and us even more savagely. No secret there. No plan except to go along and get along on the big picture and raise your flag at select moments(when in Power) to thwart the rabid GOP a bit. Such a system talks a good game but not so secretly believes in and creates parity gridlock where no one is to blame because the white hats and the black hats like the bad parent and the good parent, drive us nuts, broke and to an early grave. And pretend to be nice parents instead of dysfunctional ones.

6. Please provide links on the Obama references.
I'm not an BO supporter; I just like to decide for myself what reality is.

8. My memory is not that good
and you might be better at researching the forums here where the discussions were warm concerning his statements on impeachment. They ALL were disappointing except of Kucinich, but I do remember that Obama cut Bush the extra slack. Since it was far more than he needed to say I suppose he really believes impeachment is beyond the pale for all Bush actions.

You got me. I am lousy at getting the exact references. Months ago.

4. Seems an unfortunate reality,
a sort of unavoidable fact (if you want to play the game to win) that candidates probably do have "secret" feelings. Especially since it's both difficult and bound to be fraught with errors to attempt to read their minds. Alas, I state the obvious.

5. I agree that he should stay in if that what he chooses to do.....
and I actually find it to be better for Obama, and better for Democracy.
