Roseanne calls out Oprah and Obama
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 01:43 AM by 2rth2pwr
barak obama

is an empty suit selling "hope" in lieu of Truth. Oprah Winfrey helped to elect Arnold Swartzenegger. I have no doubt that she voted her purse by doing this, as she is a large land owner in California, and that ilk fears Dems because they do not want to pay their "fair share" of Cali tax.
http://www.roseanneworld.com/blog/2008/01/barak_obama.php
Oprah has given us Swartzenegger and Dr. Phil. If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama. He has no ideas, no plan and nothing to add other than the cynical pacification of the masses with bedtime stories about hope, while calling Unions "special interest groups" that need to be done away with.
Obama votes with Bush constantly funding this terrible endless war.
Oprah, you play the race card and the gender card too.
You are a closeted republican and chose Barak Obama because you do not like other women who actually stand for something to working American Women besides glamour, angels, hollywood and dieting!
When Americans find out that Obama backs right wing corporate racist anti worker bullshit, they will not vote for him, and the victory will go to the most racist right wing republican ever.... Mccain, who is a fascist!
That the culinary service workers in vegas have promised barak their vote,( he is anti union in his votes) over edwards, who is a pro-union man, just proves how stupid americans are and how they can be tricked so easily by the color of a person's skin...exactly what MLK hated!
Obama doesn't even back reproductive rights for any woman! It is historical that Oprah Winfrey, beloved of women, chooses a flashy man with small credentials over a seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience...and sells that to the female demographic who look to her for inspiration!

2. Also, Oprah gave us Bush.
Bush was trailing until Oprah had that putz on her show. His "awe schucks" appearance helped him greatly.

Unions are not on the same level as corporations. The later has alot more power than the former.

188. It was not my understanding from the snip that Roseanne's rant connected those two issues.
Her rant seems to support Edwards as the preferable pro-union candidate.

I think she referenced HRC as a further example of Oprah's choice for race over gender regardless of their policies, actions or absence thereof.

I agree with the substance of her rant, but I'm not Roseanne and wouldn't choose to say it that way.

96. I loved the Roseanne show
and although I don't agree with her candidate choice, she's an excellent writer and has achieved a great given her history. I loved the fact that her house was messy, the actors weren't pretty, Hollywood types and looked like normal everyday people. I like the fact that they took on gay issues, teenage pregnancy, physical abuse and many other (at the time) taboo subjects. The network tried to run rough shod over her until her show became #1 at which point she threw the network writers and producers off and replaced them with people who didn't offer up the same old formulaic bullshit.

And, btw, just because someone claims to be "progressive" or "liberal" doesn't make it so. Some of the most die-hard, DLC-loving DUers actually have those names in their screen names, or some variance and couldn't be more right wing if they registered Republican.

Why should I give two hoots about what Roseanne thinks? Why not Arnold or Oprah or even Chuck Norris? Actors are not always the greatest thinkers but they are the people with the best access to the media.

I have liked several Tom Cruise movies but I don't think he is a political guide I wish to follow.

I think she got to the real gist of Obama and Oprah.

The one thing I praise Oprah for is getting her audience to read books. Wish she had them read Naomi Klein, Naomi Wolf, and some feminist writers though....can you imagine her audience reading Dworkin?

I really think that trial in TX vs. the beef boys really changed her....that's when she met Dr. Phil.

I'll dismiss Roseanne for having absolutely no dignity when performing the national anthem, and spitting on the ground afterward.

I'd also dismiss her for spreading patently false information about Obama's record on reproductive rights. If she's going to opine, she can at least get the facts straight.

80. There's no relation, Roseanne didn't bring up the lapel pin crap
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 09:39 AM by VarnettaTuckpocket
Roseanne was hired to do a comic version of the anthem. She was a sitcom star, it was assumed that people would know to laugh at her inability to sing it properly. She told them she can't sing very good, but they said it'll be fun, people will laugh. It was wasn't her intention to be disrespectful, she was comic trying to be funny. Your take on it sounds exactly like what a right-winger would say, proving her point that Obama's an empty suit that attracts pretend progressives.

On Edit: And her spitting on the ground was another innocent joke that was misinterpreted (by right-wingers), she was imitating baseball players spitting on the ground. The whole thing was definitely ill-conceived, but to act like she set out to spit on the flag is just retarded.

You seem to be obsessed with the reverence with which a person sings the national anthem. So in my most solemn voice, I must inform you that Roseanne grabbed her crotch and spat on the ground in response to hecklers in the stadium. Perhaps you can sleep better tonight knowing that Roseanne did not make an obscene gesture--nor release any spittle--at the flag or anthem.

no, that would be racist. Though, of course, Hussein is the middle name he is obviously ashamed of, or he would proudly use it in his campaign. Obama brought up his drug habit...it's fair game and par for the course. If he didn't want it to be used he shouldn't have written about it in the first place.

WTF hires a non-singing comedian to sing one of the hardest songs to sing? No one. The ball club wanted a "performance," and then freaked out when the crowd freaked out. She gave them what she wanted, and they through her under the bus.

I'm not a fan of her comedy, but using this to dismiss her is bogus.

You'd probably think I'm disgusting, too, because I refuse to stand for either the Anthem or the Pledge.I also leave the area instead. I personally believe they are inherently fascist.

Abortion
Obama supports abortion rights. In the Illinois State Senate, he voted against a bill to ban late-term abortions. Obama said that he did not support the ban because it did not contain a clause to protect the life of the mother. During the April 2007 Democratic debate, Obama said that he trusts women to make their own decisions about whether or not to have an abortion "in conjunction with their doctors and their families and their clergy."

So if the bill banning the late abortions CONTAINED a life of the mother clause, he would have voted FOR it?

This is late term abortion we are talking about. Show up to Planned Parenthood 8 months preggers and tell them you want an abortion "just because" and see what they tell you.

Conservatives are trying to ban these procedures by lying and saying any old body can go in and get one, when that is patently untrue, there has to be a medical reason to get one that late. All part of the game they play to one day get rid of all abortion.

<United States Supreme Court ruling: Roe v. Wade (1973):

Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court's famous Roe v. Wade decision, abortions were permitted in certain states but banned in others. The court ruled in 1973 that, anywhere in the U.S.: 1
a woman and her doctor may freely decide to terminate a pregnancy during the first trimester,
state governments can restrict abortion access after the first trimester with laws intended to protect the woman's health.
abortions after fetal viability must be available if the woman's health or life are at risk; state governments can prohibit other abortions.>

141. I agree with Roseanne
I don’t think she got everything right, but she captured the way Obama has received way more press and support than he deserves, and he wouldn’t have gotten them if he was a woman. Obama is not a bad guy, he is an inspiring figure, but he is as much of a politican as Clinton but he isn’t getting the same negative due to the fact that he is a relatively newbie and he is a man. Obama ducked on many issues, and refused to vote yes or no on some controversial issues because he doesn’t want the republicans to use it against him, I think that’s why when it comes to standing up for what you believe in , Hillary is not any worse than Obama. In fact, Obama has proven to compromise his principles in order to appease the Republicans, like the health care issues in Illinois. I think Roseanne expresses that sentiment.

Obama's record/quotes on choice:

Voted against banning partial birth abortion. (Oct 2007)
Stem cells hold promise to cure 70 major diseases. (Aug 2007)
Trust women to make own decisions on partial-birth abortion. (Apr 2007)
Extend presumption of good faith to abortion protesters. (Oct 2006)
Constitution is a living document; no strict constructionism. (Oct 2006)
Pass the Stem Cell Research Bill. (Jun 2004)
Protect a woman's right to choose. (May 2004)
Supports Roe v. Wade. (Jul 1998)
Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)
Voted NO on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)
Voted YES on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)
Rated 0% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-choice stance. (Dec 2006)

...

Enforce existing safety laws against Chinese products. (Dec 2007)
Stand firm against CAFTA for labor & environmental standards. (Aug 2007)
Congress subsidizes megafarms & hurts family farmers. (Aug 2007)
People don't want cheaper T-shirts if it costs their job. (Aug 2007)
Amend NAFTA to add labor agreements. (Aug 2007)
Reinvest in communities that are burdened by globalization. (Jun 2007)
Insist on labor and human rights standards for China trade. (Jul 2004)
Fair trade should have tangible benefits for US. (Jun 2004)
Voted YES on free trade agreement with Oman. (Jun 2006)
Voted NO on implementing CAFTA for Central America free-trade. (Jul 2005)

Obama is pro-choice and pro-union. I like when Edwards gets an endorsement (he's my candidate) but I prefer that those who do so take 5 seconds to find out what Obama's positions are before castigating him in the process?

or she wasn't intelligent enough to investitigate before she started her slanderous attacks on Obama. Either way it's not much of an endorsement for hillary whereas John Kerry's is impressive to me.

But, hillary's surrogates are smearing Kerry and sticking up for roseanne even when she lies.

187. Roseanne is a middle aged woman from a working class background
who got mad as hell watching the corporate media take a dump all over the first serious female presidential candidate this country has ever had and at seeing Obama and Edwards add themselves to the pile on.

All the Obama supporters in this country had better take a long hard look at what the middle aged women are going through right now, because if Obama is the nominee, you will be going through what the middle aged women are going through after the convention, when the MSM starts taking a dump all over Obama for being Black and for being related to Muslims (and they will Swiftboat him and call him a Muslim himself) for the crime of not being the Republican nominee . You are going to be so angry that you will not be able to see straight.

What I would like to see is the candidates get together and chastise the MSM for the "help" it gives to one candidate or another. I would like to hear Obama tell Chris Matthews to lay off the sexist talk towards Hillary. I would like to hear both Hillary and Obama remind the public that Edwards is still in the race. When the candidates take advantage of the MSM corruption when it benefits them, they put themselves at the mercy of that same corrupt MSM when it decides to attack them.

I saw someone today claiming that it was Obama that put Fox on a leash, however it was Edwards who "just said no " to Fox News debates---even though he could always have used the publicity.

it's about our country. I agree with you that our candidates have to take a stand when possible against the media. I think we need to remind THEM that this race is not about skin color or gonads.
