Kerry/Gephardt in 04'?
I was just watching Judy(I think I'm Nancy Reagan)Woodruff interview Tereza Heinz Kerry(John Kerry's wife). Toward the end of the conversation Judy asked her what she though about John Edwards and his rags to riches speech. Tereza gave a long answer but it was not the answer that was interesting it was the fact that towards the end of her answer she slipped in Dick Gephardts name out of the blue,"Good for John Edwards and good for Dick Gephardt.

No one had even brought up Gephardts name but she slipped it in there for no real reason, Gephardt is no longer running and has been out of it for some time. Do you think that she let it slip what her and Kerry are talking about in private? Are they thinking about Gephardt for VP? Would that be a smart move?

1. Depends
if you've given up on the anti-war Dean vote, yes. It'll bring in some midwest and industrial states though...hopefully.

2. Judging by the caucuses.
it appears that the only anti-war Dean vote exists only right here on DU.

5. Did you ever think it would be any other way?
After Iowa, that is?

6. Interesting?
I didn't hear or see the interview, but if that was a slip, one has to wonder.
I don't see Gephardt as helping out in the southern states as much as Clark or Edwards, but the VP selection usually defies conventional logic. Who knows?

7. As others say, Gephardt backstabbed on the IWR, so no thanks.
Plus geographically he's not very helpful. Labor-wise he could be an asset, I suppose.

8. Yes.
There are people on the left that won't vote for Kerry under any circumstances, despite his extremely liberal record. If wish this wasn't true, but we have to deal with facts as they are. Gephardt puts Pennsylvania, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan out of play for the Republicans and enables the Democrats to compete in West Virginia and Ohio.

Kerry-Clark feels right in my opinion too, along with Kerry-Edwards and Kerry-Cleland.

9. I think she was just acknowledging that Edwards and Gephardt had similar
upbringings She was only countering Judy's obvious try to get her to slam Edwards. I didn't get anything more than that from the way she said it.

11. Oh, I see.
You're probably right. His name just seemed to come out of the blue for me.

10. As a Missourian
I hope Geppy is not on the ticket. I like him, but I am in the minority of Missourians. His district was an anomaly, a small part of STL metro. And he barely won that every year. He does not garuntee Missouri.

Edwards, Clark, or Graham are better choices.

12. No offense, to any Geppers out there
But that combo would be a snooooozefest...they wouldn't need secret service, because if anything happened, they could just start talking and suck all of the oxygen out of the room...

I think Kerry needs some pizzazz, of some kind, to go with his gravitas 'n granite...

14. Gephardt as VP would make Kerry look exciting
Gephardt is a fossil, a malicious one, but a fossil nonetheless. His main advantage over Edwards is that Geppy would not outshine Kerry on the talking circuit. Edwards is the most naturally telegenic of the Dem candidates and he most likely would enhance Kerry's appearence of being a zombie. Gephardt on the otherhand would make Kerry's monotonous speaking tone sound lively.

17. Gephardt has no chance at being
VP choice. Richardson or Tom Vilsack should be the VP candidate. And probably will be unless they go with one of the FL senators

15. Don't remember, was Gephart in the rose garden for IWR?
If so, Kerry wouldn't be able to get away from the charge that he was waffling, didn't mean it, or other nonsense.

18. No
I don't think that was it. Could be the ticket though! I think she said that meaning good for those rags-to-riches stories like Edwards and Gephardts - both born to humble middle class families.
