Edwards supporters the loudest at caucus
Marge Sams braved the biting winter air to caucus again after more than 20 years. The 80-year-old Indianola woman supported Barack Obama at Indianola's Precinct 3, an area of the city nearly evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.

While Sams supported Obama, her fellow Precinct members and Warren County Democrats stood with John Edwards during the first-in-the-nation caucuses. Obama took the statewide race to victory.

Turnout was heavy across Iowa and Indianola was no exception. Parking spaces were at a premium as vehicles quickly filled spots and lined roadways. Caucus officials allowed people to register even after the process began because of the parking difficulties.

After registering, caucus-goers quickly joined a candidate's group with Obama, John Edwards and Hillary Clinton sections showing the most support. Caucus-goers showed up with a favored candidate in mind as only one person stood in the area designated for undecided voters. One woman stood next to a sign for Dennis Kucinich, but later merged with the Obama group beside her.
