Obama wins support of big Nev. union _ a blow to Clinton, Edwards
(sorry if this is a dupe but this is the Nevada version of today's story)

January 9, 2008

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Presidential candidate Barack Obama has won the support of the 60,000-member Culinary Workers Union in Nevada, a coup for the Democrat that could boost his candidacy against Hillary Rodham Clinton in the state's nominating contest.

Leaders of the Culinary Workers Union, Local 226 announced the endorsement at a news conference with members in Las Vegas Wednesday, the day after Obama narrowly lost the New Hampshire primary to Clinton.

Culinary secretary-treasurer D. Taylor praised the senator's work with a sister union in Chicago and said Obama would appeal across the union's diverse ranks. He took a jab at the mostly white electorate that had so far shaped the race in New Hampshire and Iowa.

"We're not just Wonderbread here, we got pumpernickel, we got whole wheat, we got rye. We're excited about that. That's America. That's why Sen. Obama excites us and excites the country," Taylor said, following cheers and the union chant "Si se puede."

Obama chanted the English translation, "Yes we can," in his concession speech Tuesday.

3. I know, this is a tragedy in reality ...he has fought for those who are nothing but
wallets for corporate pigs to feed off of and they ignore him ...because of the corporate media.

4. Why doesn't he just endorse Obama and try for VP?
He would have far more political clout as VP than a 2 time loser. If he made a deal with Obama today, the nomination would be in the bag.

7. I think he'd make an arse-kicking Attorney General and would work to undo
the Patriot Act, FISA and other travesties of the Bush administration. He'd be a great AG to lead investigations and go after the same criminals.

9. Agree 100%. I think he would do the country more good
by taking this deal rather than fighting a hopeless battle. An AG who stands up for the little guy has been sorely lacking for a long time.

6. None of the ones that mattered
Not the significant national ones, or the ones in Nevada that make a difference.

11. In NH? Fine. To say he has poor union support is ludicrous.
Whoever is perceived to be winning will get the most union support. Unions want political allies for their workers. If they fear the best candidate will not win, they'll go for a second best.
