An amusing live-blog on-the-fly account (with typos) of a John McCain pep rally this afternoon (by a Canadian journalist with macleans.ca)

We're at the state capitol awaiting McCain's arrival amid democracy at its most crazy. The man carrying the McCain Amnesty sign just appooached a TV crew claiming to have been "assaulted" bu a McCain supporter, who claimed to have been 'punched repeatedly.' Alas, it fell on cynical ears. "Do you have video," one asked. "If you don't, it didn't happen."

I don't know quite how this happened, but someone just told us that Ron Paul is here at the McCain rally. I mean, not in spirit - although his people are out in force - the actual *guy* is here. According to someone woman decked out in McCain gear. There's also a full contingent of protesters, reporters, onlookers and - dog walkers.
2:18:09 PM I'm hanging by the McCain Amnesty guys, who are Ron Paulites, I believe. The one who claims to have been assaulted is explaining in a loud voice that he wants his alleged assailant charged "to teach him a lesson." Now they've gotten onto the federal reserve, and how 'no one will talk about it'. Except Ron Paul. He's the champion of the conspiracy theorists.

Sportsmen for McCain - best sticker yet.
2:24:35 PM
Whoo! The candidate must be arriving momentarily; they've just asked everyone to drop the signs so the cameras can get a clear shot. About time.
2:25:28 PM
A self-proclaimed sign-carrier is on stage, revving up the crowd with a story about a little boy who stopped to ask him why he was voting for McCain.
2:27:10 PM
I notice the Ron Paul and assorted other extracampaign protesters didn't follow the advice and lower their signs. Tsk tsk.

We were promised Scottish dancers, but we got Right Here, Right Now. I knew it was too much to hope I could make it through an election without hearing Right Here, Right Now. A song that includes the lyric "What are waiting for" is probably a bad choice when a rally is half an hour late.
