Are young people coming out to vote because they are are sick of all the Homophobia and Prejudice

from many of those over 50? You know, the Bill O'Reilly types that are still around.

I am reminded of a H.S. club that formed in of all places Farmington N.M. perhaps the most conservative town in New Mexico. It was a Gay / Straight alliance club and the parents were all up in arms about it and tried to stop it but the board voted that it could stay. The kids are fed up with all the prejudice crap from their parents.

I see all these young, open-minded kids, inspired and ready to vote in the first black President because they want to be a part of history and see this country grow and move forward and they think their parents are part of the problem.

So is this what is inspiring the younger crowd or is it simply more about Obama's message and personality? Or both?

and if they are anti-gay they are probably prejudice about other things too. Sure their are bigoted young folks to but the numbers are much, much smaller than with those over 50.

in any HS when I was in school in the 80's. Such a club would have created probably violence. Something is clearly changing and I am hearing more and more that younger kids are tolerant of homosexuality etc.

Certainly not everyone over 50 is prejudice but the fact is our grand parents do tend to have more prejudices and that is just a fact supported by polling. It was taught to them. My parents are almost 80 and they never bought into any of the prejudice crap as they were professors etc. but their parents were most certainly prejudice as hell.

Even my "repub" friends are socially liberal... but just hate Welfare and giving money to "the poor people who don't do anything except wait for more". Sometimes I see their points, honestly.

But, regarding social issue like Gay Rights, Racial Tensions.. and the complete hypocrisy of my parents generation (Be nice to your brother while I yell at your father for 2 hours... Play nice with your friends, but don't bring any black ones home.. Save your money for college while I blow mine on a new Lexus instead of saving for retierment...) etc.

And, for most boomers (my mom included) - they HATE to admit they're getting old. HATE IT... they do whatever they can to be "cool" and "trendy".. so Obama will probably start drawing them too.

14. Not where I live. Younger people are more right-wing than me.

I'm in my 30's, but many 20-somethings are much more *socially* conservative than myself, or most other Gen-Xers I know. Then again, I live in Orange County....

Most people my age are fiscally conservative (not I), but socially liberal.

I do agree that college and high school age youth are shifting away from some of the hangups and certainly that youth is impatient. That seems to account for a big part of Obama's appeal, IMO.
