Just off the phone with a *very* Republican girl that I know
She wanted Thompson for President. *vomitous non interuptus* However after a long discussion on what is going on currently in politics. She says that if the race came down to Romney vs. Edwards she would vote Democrat for the first time in her life. She said that Huckabee Edwards is a little bit more difficult, but that she still might vote for Edwards. The only Republican who she would vote for no matter who he faced is McCain. McCain is our most dangerous opponent. I'm convinced of it. Her opinion towards Edwards seriously intrigues me. He was my #1 last cycle...

5. Of Clinton, yes...of Obama she is unsure...
she said that she was shocked that he did as well as he did in Iowa, but then again, she comes from Mississippi. She says that after NH she'll have a better idea of what she thinks about Obama's chances. I was absolutely, positively f'ing floored when she said that she would support Edwards. This girl thinks that GWB has been A-ok 99.5 percent of the time.

This conversation blew my mind.

17. Her view seems to fall in line with polls that suggest
Edwards does better against ANY Repub candidate than any of the other Democratic candidates...

19. I had forgotten about those polls...(shows the way things fade in
and out even from the minds of those of us who are tuned in). Do you think it's his populist message, or????

3. McCain is the only viable GOP candidate in the field
Period.

He's the only threat of the lot, which is why the MSM is pushing him so consistently

15. One simple strategy would defeat McCain easily and that is
ask the voters if they want another GWB term...and that would be exactly what we would get, a 3rd GB term with McCain.

6. If you knew this girl,
when she said she would vote for Edwards over Romney and probably over Huckabee, you would have gagged on your own tongue (which I basically did) and had your jaw hit the floor.

7. Most republicans I know
loathe Edwards as much, if not more, than they loathe Hillary.

I'm still leaning Edwards of the three, but I don't have to vote until Feb 5, so I'm just sitting back and watching what unfolds until I make up my mind.

9. I think a lot of Democrats that aren't political junkies feel that this election
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 08:39 PM by INdemo
will be won or lost with the help of MSM and the voting machines(regardless of who the candidates are)....This gives the Repukes a big advantage right out of the starting gate...These are the type of comments I've been hearing and so Democrats certainly have their work cut out for them...Its not if we get more votes its having those votes counted and how well the Republican scripts are that will be read by the media....
We can see how the media is handling free air time already and it will certainly get worse.

13. an up-hill battle...
I am fortunate to have the time..not always the stomach...to read about what's going on. I need to do a better job of informing those I come in contact with. I used to write little flyers...I called them "Did you know?", and left them in supermarket carts, news-stands, the library, doctors office..etc., Not much but if one person....

11. I know a family of 10 Mormons....(9 of them are of voting age)
and they all said that they are voting for Obama except one who is voting for Romney.

They said that they are tired of all of the stuffed suits promising pennies for us, while they count what is in their bank accounts.

The one voting for Romney is doing so because he is a Mormon.

14. McCain as GOP nominee would be awesome for the Limbaugh Dittoheads.
Limbaugh spent the entire 2000 cycle campaigning against McCain. I'd love to hear The Bloated Pig try to generate enthusiasm for him.

16. They loathe McCain
the whole Freaker crowd despises him. Most of the rightwing radio hosts as well. Hugh Hewitt just went off on him yesterday.

18. Limbaugh was always referring to him as "Carol Channing" as
a way to mock his speech style...
