EDIT: John Edwards was my Senator. I KNOW his ethics and how he works FOR people. I've seen it firsthand. I voted for him as Senator, and as VP and will - if he's the nom and I can - vote for him for President. In fact JOHN EDWARDS is the reason I went Kerry/Edwards in 2004. I like Kerry OK. But it was Senator Edwards that got my vote for that ticket. I will vote for him every chance I get.

And this is why....

I am looking for a president who has a track record of winning at what he does. I want someone who knows how to clarify a situation so people can see what is at stake. This is what John Edwards did, over and over and over in his career representing people's interests agains corporations. He was always able to show the jury how his clients were injured and why their cause should prevail. He didn't deceive, he showed bright lights on what happened so all could see and understand right from wrong. Isn't that what we so desperately need right now... someone with integrity and a track record for representing regular folk; someone who wins by convincing, with evidence and facts that his perspective is congruent with reality. Once we see a common perspective, we can begin to move toward cooperation and effective problem solving. But the shared clarity of vision is what opens the door for community building and peacemaking. John is the man with proven experience in setting up a shared clear vision among real people. It's how he won in court, every time.

In comparison with Obama....
I'm not saying there is anything especially wrong with Obama, but standing next to John Edwards he is a neophyte in the world of changing minds, understanding people, and being able to lead a nation. Obama is a smart young man. John Edwards is a "life seasoned", brilliant, imminently successful, HUMAN BEING in his prime.

I drove an Edwards supporter to precinct 7. Health care and the war were her top two issues. She WAS a Republican that switched parties. At least 20% of those voting were former Reps or Independents. Awesome. That is a sign people are hungry for change! I'm calling it a night. See everybody soon.

There was a great turn out at Precint 2 in my district. We packed the Library Annex room. Clinton took 3 delegates, Obama 2 delegates and Edwards took 2 delegates, by the skin of our teeth. We needed 20 people to get one delegate, and we initially had 19. After talking to non-viable caucus goers in the Richardson and Biden groups we ended up with 31 people in the Edwards corner. This was enout to give us 1.64 delegates, which was rounded up to 2 delegates. There were 7 delegates total. So here's how it broke down:
Hillary Clinton 57 people x 7 delegates divided by 132 total caucus goers = 3.02 delegates (rounds down to 3 delegates)
Barack Obama 41 people x 7 delegates divided by 132 total caucus goers = 2.17 delegates (rounds down to 2 delegates)
John Edwards 31 people x 7 delegates divided by 132 total caucus goers = 1.64 delegates (rounds UP to 2 delegates)!!

Everyone was very cordial, even when they were on different sides. Many times family members would be in a different candidates group but no one pulled out the boxing gloves. In fact, there were plates of cookies and fudge being passed around in a friendly attempt to persuade people to join in with the other groups. It is fantastic that we live in a country where people supporting opposing candidates
can coexist and cooperate together in the same room. It gives me great hope that American democracy is holding on and we will win back the civil rights we have lost during the Bush era.

I caucused for him.

We had 122 people, so the viability threshold was 19 people. We started off with 38. Obama had 41 and Hillary had 28. Richardson had 10, Biden 1 and Kucinich 1. I think seven of the 10 Richardson people came to Edwards plus the Biden person. Actually, I'm not entirely sure where it all went after realignment, but we ended up with 47 for Edwards. I didn't hear Obama's final tally - must have been 45? and Hillary had 30.

So it broke down as...

Edwards - 5 delegates
Obama - 4 delegates
Hillary - 3 delegates

And I'm going to be an Edwards delegate at the county convention!! My first caucus and I'm going to be a delegate! Cool! It was fun and interesting.

Chicago's local NBC just did a segment on Iowa. They played part of Obama's speech--which makes complete sense--he won, he's from Chicago. Then on to Hillary's campaign for about 5 minutes. Then a strong mention of Richardson. And...not a single mention of Edwards.

Clinton and Obama both raised $100 million of mostly Corporate money. Edwards dosen't have that kind of money (in both senses of the word) Even against those odds, he beat Clinton and came close to Obama. THAT is quite a win!

Not to diminish Iowa, however, the people of Iowa are not representative of the general population of the US, neither is New Hampshire.

Super Tuesday will tell the tale. We have time, and the Campaign probably needs money. So open your check books, wallets and piggy banks again. Although I've been out of work since May I am sending another $50.

The Corporate Media has been, and continues to. under report and marginalize Edwards. Even this morning they talk about Clinton and Obama and Edwards is is just a passing mention. As a major part of the Corporatist Establishment in this country - THEY ARE AFRAID OF JOHN EDWARDS. By the time we get to Super Tuesday Edwards will have had more time to get his message across and folks will have had time to see the differences. Edwards is the only one of the top three candidates that can break the Corporatist hold on this country and effect the change we must have.

I want to know where Obama stands with the liberal base of the party. Every time I get to the point of being ready to support Obama, he puts me off, and this is why. When he talks of hope and doing away with the old divisions, he disrespects those who have fought the same battles he says he will fight.

He makes a cautious nod to the civil rights movement, not wanting to identify too closely with the struggle of it, but recognizing its existence and that he is a beneficiary of those who went before. Yet, when it comes to the rest of the liberal agenda, he throws those movements, those who sacrificed for those causes, under the bus as belonging to the past or being divisive politics.

Workers rights were won by union organizers, some of whom died for the progress made. Ask Al Gore if he paid a price when he wrote "Earth in the Balance." Ask the feminists if they were demonized or gays if they were despised - what little we have left to show for it after a multi-decade assault on social gains were made by people who fought for them.

It is probably too late to contest the ascendant notion that the problem with our country is divisiveness, the parties being equally to blame, and that that is why nothing gets done in Washington. Before we accept this new thing "we all know," we should at least examine its accuracy. Who has been in power, how did they get there, and what have they done with it?

The Right, especially a corporate Right, have been in power, they got there on scorched earth policies against everyone else, and they used it to make money and consolidate power. This is the oldest battle, the one between rich and poor. When our country developed a middle class, and that middle class developed ambitions, they contested power. It was our nation's greatest strength until it was divided and conquered by business interests wanting to return to the days of the robber barons.

The Right succeeded on a simple principal: control information. After "losing" the Vietnam War on the six o'clock news, they set out to regain control and did. They did quite a few things right, like using radio to reach the working people they recruited, and using churches as effective communications channels. This is all still in play, the only thing different now is that these people, the Right's base, are wondering how its gone so badly. They are at a teaching moment when they might realize that they have been used, unless someone comes along and says to them, "Naw, don't question how we got into this mess. Surely the Left is as much to blame as you are. Can't we all just move forward and forget about how we got here? Join us. Unity. Hooray."

We could, if are interested in winning and not changing anything of substance going on in our country. We could if the change is just a slogan and not a commitment. And it worries me when this agent of change dismisses those who have fought for change, and steps up as if it was a mantle to be placed on his shoulders, an unearned thing of grace? Bestowed by whom?

(I saw Warren Buffett on CNBC. He's financially backing both Clinton and Obama because neither one of them would "kill the Golden Goose." Whose goose? Mr. Buffett's goose has grown fat, while the working class gets a Dicken's goose that cannot afford health care for Tiny Tim.)

I want to support Obama, optimism feels good. But, I've already had the politics of hope. Some died. Some were politically destroyed. Some were very recent: Bill Clinton arose on a similar message, one that becomes worn as one lives through the four-year cycle of hope and disappointment. Hope is a good thing, but it is not sufficient. I am more committed to someone who will fight - yes, fight - for our rights, because that is the only way we have gotten what we have today, even though so many seem unaware of those who went before.

I supported Edwards in 2004, and I will support him in 2008.

Now the bad news:

Optimism wins elections in America. Not saying it should but that's an empirical fact. Martin Seligman (Univ of PA), whose life work is learned helplessness vs. positive psychology, devised a protocol to assess the results of U.S. presidential elections. From 1948 to 1984, nine of ten presidential elections were won by the most optimistic candidate. This trend continues.

Question: What price will John Edwards pay to obtain the presidency? I see working class supporters reaching deep into their pockets -- how deep has he reached into his own?

Edwards needs to put his money where his mouth has been. Now. This minute. He has millions -- $54.7 million, to be precise. Why would he ask more of others than he asks of himself. So he wants to knock out Hillary... fine. Excellent strategy. Let him donate $10 million from his own estate. There will be plenty left for Elizabeth and the children (assuming judicious management). More than plenty.

Be a leader, Mr. Edwards. Pay the price. You will earn my respect and many other Americans will respect you, too. Any great challenge, anything worth doing, requires an investment. But before you ask the other America to sacrifice another penny -- consider funding your dreams yourself.

To whom much is given, is much required. No matter how eloquent their rhetoric.

I walked houses all day yesterday and worked a caucus last night..

on the outskirts of DesMoines..

it was a hell of an experience!!

the causcus place had never ever had more than 150 people before..last night..384..

Another guy and i worked the caucus..and we had to start 1 delegate..we ended with 3..Hillary 1 obama 4

something was weird though..Obama's people stayed out in a hall way..either they didn;t want to be in the discussions and take a chance of losing caucus people..or they didn't want the neighbors to question and talk to those they had there to caucus.

There was some weird stuff going on..and when we got back to the hotel where john was and we were all comparing notes..we all had the same kind of notes!!

that is as far as i will go describing it.

most were young for Obama..

in fact many in the Edwards/Hillary/Richardson/Biden caucus groups started commenting on themselves as the Grey hair supporters.

Edwards got all but one of the Richardson /and Biden caucus people..

It was mostly older women for Hillary..

and it was a total mix for Edwards..young and middle age and male and female..alike. we had alot of female..

and all the older men..

This is a very White state..but there was a mix for Obama..many who looked like immigrants..( yes legal) ..and a few Black..but primarily young..and they demographic that all the caucus people were saying ..don't show up for general elections!!

in fact the people who have caucused there for many many many years said they never ever saw these people for Obama before..not one of them.

and most of the people know their neighbors..and have been doing this for many many years..

the folks here are wonderful..and they are the most informed electorate i have ever experienced.

they are Well Educated, and articulate about the whole process and the Candidates..and allllllllllll the issues. and many of the older folks..well they are most online!! ...they read and educate themselves of all the issues..

and if i heard one thing more than anything else going door to door for a week and sitting in their living rooms all over Iowa..they all want Bush and Cheney impeached!!..and they are now shy about saying so!!

I want to thank all In Iowa who have worked on the Edwards campaign..and i now consider all of them friends for life..

I want to thank all of the Iowans who asked me into their homes to warm up..and who wanted me to sit in their living rooms and share info about John Edwards..and help them decide who they would support ..

I want to thank all of those wonderful grassroots volunteers who came here on their own dime from all over the United States.. and who believe in John Edwards as i do..who walked in snow and ice and drove in the city and country ..on pure ice..and frozen over driveways in the rural areas..and farms with driveways frozen over.. (i had to close my eyes for fear we would go off the side into a ditch)... in very very cold conditions to get out the vote..you are just the best!!..

( and for anyone going to come here for future caucus's..those instant hot things you put in your gloves and boots..they are a must!!..oh and thermal undergear..don't forget those!!)

There are so many to thank..I will treasure the days i have had here with the wonderful people of Iowa!!

These are incredible people..and although my hands and feet were damn cold..they warmed my heart in ways i could never have anticipated!

I have not seen anyone here down..in fact they are all happy as hell we beat Hillary.

It is just too damn bad that the media has decided they do not want Edwards....or are scared shitless of him..but we can do this without them..if we want to..

I am an Omaha resident who campaigned for John Edwards in Iowa. While I didn't have a lot of free time for this type of stuff, I did manage to pound enough pavement in sub-freezing temperatures to give my legs severe charlie horses afterward. I'm sure there were a few other Nebraskans who also cared enough to make the trip next door.

So, are we going to see some Iowans over here waving the One America flag in the coming weeks? Our first-ever Democratic caucus is February ninth. As far as I know there is no real organizing for Edwards going on here, besides my one attempt to rally fellow One Corps members for action in Iowa. We could sure use some experienced help.

And if you think it's not worth the effort, since Nebraska's caucus is so late in the game, just remember this:
