Clinton and Obama supporters: We are making history together.
What would have been unthinkable 40 years ago is happening today because of us. With our support, we are changing the landscape of American politics and we are writing a new page in the history of this nation. Those who gave their lives for the civil rights of women and blacks in this country must be smiling right now, probably saying to themselves: "It was worth it".

Regardless of the political fate of our two candidates, I salute you, Clinton and Obama supporters. What we are doing today will become part of the collective memory of America.

5. I join you in the salute!
It's wonderful that they both have a GOOD chance of becoming president! :patriot: The significance of that shouldn't be underestimated. It is a great thing for all Americans, but especially for children -- when people say, "You can grow up to be president," they now have more reason to believe it's possible.

As I said elsewhere: Here's to breaking glass ceilings! :toast:

8. Edwards supporters are also making history. We are going to take this country back from its corporate
masters! The rising up of the middle class and the workers is a true historical event! The "people" are going to break through the glass ceiling of corporatism! This election is about all of "us" not race or gender and I am proud of "us"

to salute those that have helped make a woman and a black man the two most powerful political voices in America.

12. I understand. However,
you need to admit that the symbolic significance of Clinton and Obama, regardless if you agree with their message or not, is very positive for the nation.

16. I actually disagree.I would agree if race or gender weren't an issue. Both represent poor reasons to
vote for a candidate. Both candidates are more than that.It doesn't represent progress that those elements are issue.Only when race and gender are no longer part of the equation will progress have been made. But I understand they are still issues. And I think that is sad.

17. The point is, neither a woman or a black has ever....
been elected president or come this far in the process. To represent all of us, one or the other should happen and it will be a historical event.

The people you mentioned are good people, but they were far from being frontrunners in a presidential race.

30. What about Jesse Jackson? In '84 he received 3.5 million votes (21%) & came in 3rd place
He won Virginia, South Carolina, Louisiana & split Mississippi.

No offense to Obama or his supporters but folks should give Rev. Jackson his due.

29. Clinton and Obama

Talk about Interracial relationships. and No, I'm not a racist. My nephew is African American through marriage.

I just get the feeling, those who seek a president other than who we've been accustomed with over the decades ( white male) is in for a true surprise.

Not to insult the abilities of a woman, but at the same token, as a woman myself, I wouldn't trust another female to run the country. Besides, Did Bill grow breasts over night? Of course not but who else would be guiding her through her term? None other than BILL himself.

She's the 45th "First Lady" of our country throughout history.

As a candidate, and Senator:

She voted for use of military force in Iraq, but now says she would have voted differently "if we knew then what we know now." SHE HAD TO HAVE HAD A CLUE! I would assume even Bill was paying attention to that one..

Just a couple of weeks ago, Sen. Hillary Clinton said she wasn't interested in attacking her opponents -- she was interested in "tackling the problems of America.

"But with her lead slipping of the tongue, things have changed, and the New York senator has found herself in a full out "verbal war" with Sen. Barack Obama.

She scares me.:scared:

31. She scares me a bit, too but I think you're wrong about one thing
at least: if you truly think Bill Clinton is the head of that household, I think you're mistaken. I think She's the Boss, in fact, I'd bet on it.

I also think either Obama or Clinton COULD win the election, my personal preference is that Hillary does not.

33. I sorta feel sorry for me too because
I wish I had more hope. Hope that my grandchild, who is 2, will make it through his generation without the frightening issues we are dealing with today and the issues my sons grew up with through the 80's & 90's and the issues they are facing now.
Edwards is my only hope for both my 3 sons and grandson's futures ...for now anyways...

23. Agreed, and I'll be proud to support either one of them
Whatever happens, I think we will have our first woman or first black president. But that is actually not why I would support either one: rather, because they will both restore this country, both at home and in the world. Both very smart.
