For What It's Worth...
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 06:19 PM by progressoid
I'm caucusing for Edwards tomorrow.

I saw him (and Elizabeth) again last night and actually got a little choked-up. Well, for about a second - I'm not a girly-man ! ;)
But if he can make this terminal cynic feel better about the future, maybe there is hope after all. Actually, even in single digit weather we all felt pretty good after their stop.
(Sorry, no pictures this time)

I know he's not perfect. But when I weigh everyone's pros and cons, he always seems to rise to the top of my list. That isn't to say I'm settling. For me it was initially a three-way tie (John, Joe & Barack). Then just between John and Joe. But John wins it for me.

I won't rehash the great reasons for supporting him that others have posted, but one other thing comes to mind. I think his absence from Washington has sharpened him; just as it did for Al Gore. And considering the low opinion most Americans have for Congress, a little distance from it can't hurt.

Edit: More For What It's Worth:

My wife will causus for Obama.
My brother is leaning toward Biden.
And my parents...I dunno for sure except it's not Clinton.

5. Good choice

Edwards is actually my second choice (after Kucinich) but Biden is a decent choice too.

EDIT: Meant to add that it's gratifying to see someone who's actually thought about the process before finding their candidate rather than picking one arbitrarily and then looking for justification.

"For What It's Worth..."

It is worth a lot to my family. Hillary and Obama are fine if you are doing well and can wait for real economic change. For the struggling working class, its Edwards or bust.

19. "the struggling working class" - - That pretty much cinched it for me.
We're keeping our head above water now. But we went a couple years without health insurance and living on credit cards and family loans. Even though things are slightly better, I'm scared shitless. Any small "event" could wipe us out.

I want my country back.

12. i'm glad you and your wife are there. Edwards is my choice too.
Last prez election I was a delegate for Kucinich. While Kucinich speaks for my values on most issues, I don't support his endorsement of Obama.

I am looking for a president who has a track record of winning at what he does. I want someone who knows how to clarify a situation so people can see what is at stake. This is what John Edwards did, over and over and over in his career representing people's interests agains corporations. He was always able to show the jury how his clients were injured and why their cause should prevail. He didn't deceive, he showed bright lights on what happened so all could see and understand right from wrong. Isn't that what we so desperately need right now... someone with integrity and a track record for representing regular folk; someone who wins by convincing, with evidence and facts that his perspective is congruent with reality. Once we see a common perspective, we can begin to move toward cooperation and effective problem solving. But the shared clarity of vision is what opens the door for community building and peacemaking. John is the man with proven experience in setting up a shared clear vision among real people. It's how he won in court, every time.

I'm not saying there is anything especially wrong with Obama, but standing next to John Edwards he is a neophyte in the world of changing minds, understanding people, and being able to lead a nation. Obama is a smart young man. John Edwards is a brilliant, imminently successful, HUMAN BEING in his prime.

18. Holy crap! Welcome to the tundra.
I'm in Council Bluffs. Sounds like you're in the middle of the state now.

Sadly, I've been too %#@!* busy to help anybody. I take a break every once in a while for my DU fix, but then it's back to the grind. But I'll schedule time during November to help whomever wins this thing!! Frankly, I was worried I would miss Jan 3rd, but looks I'll make it.

Glad to have you here! (It's going to warm up tomorrow!) :)
