23 years ago, I voted for Ronnie Raygun.
I was in the military. You might say I was pretty gung ho. :patriot:

Earlier this week I hung a pretty big sign from an overpass that said:

MERRY
IRAQ-MESS!

It didn't last long. :P

I hope that I'm judged more by this week and not by 1984.

If you support a candidate, great. I haven't even settled on one yet (thank goodness I don't live in Iowa!)

I know some of you LOATHE some of the other Democratic candidates. Fine...but if you point out awful stuff they did 23 years ago (for instance), remember that they just MIGHT have done something pretty cool this week.

1. Well, given that you have both admitted to and learned from your
mistake, shows definitively that you are no Republican.... I hope you have converted quite a few others along the way....

11. That's like John Edwards
When a person learns from mistakes made in the past, that's a sign of good character. :patriot:

2. Very cool
I know how it is not to have signs last too long. Over the last few years, I've put up lots of homemade "Impeach Bush" signs, and it's always interesting seeing how long (or short) some of them last.

5. Don't apologize.
I don't remember who I voted for or if I even voted in 84. It was a tumultuous time to say the least, I had recently been married, with young step-children joining the mix :eyes:, and I wasn't into politics much.

So you're forgiven-I hope you took a pic of your efforts! :applause:

6. I'm a firm believer in change
because I know a lot of people who were kids in 1980 and got fooled by the smooth talking asshole Reagan. My ex and I could do math and tried to tell them what a 30% decrease in their tax rate was going to net them every week, but that SOB had them all hypnotized. I think it was that voice.

For some people, that hypnosis has held and he's still revered as the savior of the country. He made people feel so aw shucks great while he was robbing them blind and setting us up for another Great Depression by screwing up the tax code and favoring the rich while stiffing the workers.

More people have awakened and realized they were sold a very bad batch of snake oil.

I look at what some people did 30 years ago and compare it to what they're doing now and realize they didn't learn a goddamned thing in 3 decades. I look at others who did the same stupid stuff and realized they've gained a great deal of wisdom in the meantime. In any case, what a person does NOW matters a hell of a lot more than what they did back THEN.

9. I did not vote for that idiot but ...
...I have to admit, I was broken in. I voted for the first woman governor (Dixie Lee Ray) simply because she was a woman and a Democrat, when in reality tho she may have been smart enough to become the head of the Atomic Energy Commission, but she got us deep in debt trying to convert the state over to that poisonous industry of atomic energy which became a boondoggle, AND she was an idiot and clueless. What can I say except I was a young and an idealistic progressive who spent years being lambasted for being one, partly thanks to people like her ?????

(sigh) I guess I can say at least she never became president of the United States and was responsible for the the dismantling of our safety net, the deaths of millions of innocent peoples, whole villages burnt to the ground, babies bayoneted, and funding death squads in South America (Thank YOU Negroponte who is busy today in Iraq doing the same thing, because he wasn't held responsible for what happened under his watch in S America under Reagan) ~ including supporting and funding regimes who raped, murdered and dropped nuns from airplanes just to see them die, forced whole countries out of their democracies and into war and poverty, or bribing Iran religious wing nut hostage holders to hold American hostages so he could win an election ~ and then die as some sort of hero :puke: :puke: :puke: before he could watch one of those hostage holders become president of Iran today... I guess I can also say I was still young, still a progressive and saw through the bull crap and am proud of it, so perhaps it should prove that being a progressive IS actually smarter ...!

I heard once that while some people don't learn from history repeating itself, sometimes other people DO learn from history, just so they can force its repetition and profit from it. Pretty much all of the Reaganites have done just that and will die happily in their own beds instead in prison where they belong ...

So I just want you to know as one of the ones who was ridiculed by pro-Reaganites while not voting for that dolt, I really am glad you saw the light and that now you are working hard to help others see it too. It means a lot to an old woman like me who has worked her ass off for almost half a century to make the world better for all, not just richer for a few.

My 2 cents
