Choir director of Obama's church murdered
South Side church choir director killed
December 25, 2007

A Chicago man who conducted choir for two decades at a high-profile black church has been killed.

Donald Young, 47, was found in his South Shore apartment Sunday morning, dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. said the popular Young “lived and breathed” music at Trinity United Church of Christ, which is best known as Sen. Barack Obama's church.

Young also taught fourth grade at a Guggenheim Elementary School.

Christmas presents and jewelry were missing from his home, authorities said.

5. Does anyone know about this Church?
I heard this asshole Billy Cunningham on the radio the other day talking about Obama, he refereed to him as Barrack Hussein Obama. He was repeating all the accusations I have heard a certain Democratic candidate has been spreading. Things like him being raised a Muslim and going to a Muslim school and using cocaine. He claimed the Trinity United Church of Christ was a black supremacist Church. I was raised in the Church of Christ and it certainly wasn't.

6. The United Church of Christ is just about the most delightfully liberal mainstream...

...church out there. They were the first to ordain an openly gay man back in the 60's and with the exception of the Unitarians (who some could argue aren't "technically" Christians) -- the UCC is the most liberal out there. Rev. Barry Lynn of the Americans United for Separation of Church and State is also a UCC minister. The United Church of Christ and "The Church of Christ" are polar opposites -- the Church of Christ is a fundamentalist sect which preaches full immersion adult baptism as necessary for "salvation" -- and that they are the only true church. Naturally, there are two distinct sects of the Church of Christ preaching this.

7.  I am very familiar with the Church
of Christ, I went there when I was a teenager and my mother is constantly trying to get me to go there to this day. They believe they are the only true Church and they are taught that it was started by Christ himself. They sight some line in the Bible where it says to make a joyful noise with your voice, so they think you can't use musical instruments because the Bible doesn't say so. I am surprised they don't follow the words of the bible and eat human flesh and blood instead of bread and wine for communion. I went to UUC last month, it was interesting. Is Obama's Church black supremacists like the right-wing asshole Cunningham claims? I really doubt it myself it just sounds like the usual racial Repug shit to me.

10. I was once a member of Church of Christ and I asked the minister...
why we had bathrooms, since the New Testament didn't explicitly authorize them. I'm still waiting for an answer.

11. The Church of Christ is a totally different denomination from the United Church of Christ.
The Church of Christ is pretty far to the edge of the fundie wackjob world, while the UCC couldn't be more different -- it's one of the most liberal and inclusive denominations. Definitely not "black supremacist" either.

13. As others have pointed out UCC is an extremely progressive denomination
Trinity UCC, the actual church Barack attends on the South Side of Chicago, believes in empowering the African American community it serves, by fighting for racial equality, and serving African Americans by providing a variety of programs and ministries, job assistance and computer learning programs.

I guess Billy Cunningham doesn't seem to know the difference between Black Supremacy and Black Equality.
