Possible solution, a state requirement to be viable for delegates. ie 15% of voters need to vote
in a caucus or primary in order to get delegates. If a caucus or primary is not viable they have a 30 day wait period and must hold a new caucus or primary.
If the second go around is still not viable or the state refuses to hold another session they get 1 uncommitted delegate to the convention.
I think this may have a chance of taking some of the sting out of these early contests and sending the nomination process back to the convention proper.
2. What advantage is there to 5% of the voters in Iowa having such a national impact. If they can use
a 15% of those who show up rule to eliminate candidates, Why not a requirement that at least 15% of the voters need to show up before they pick any candidates.
6. I agree and before '72, the convention picked the candidate and I think the
party needs to say the primary system is not working and unless the voters get on board and vote we drop the primary system and go back to the ward system.
Keep the reforms of 72 but make the convention the center piece.
Political professionals picked the candidate, in conclave and with the employment of horse-trading and log-rolling among themselves; in other words, the proverbial 'smoke-filled room'.
It is certainly hard to argue this produced worse and less progressive candidates than the present system does.
