Clinton names felons to Tennessee steering committee
The long list of political insiders named to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s Tennessee Steering Committee includes at least two convicted felons.

Gladys Crain, octogenarian West Tennessee political power broker, is one of more than 100 people named to head Clinton’s political organization in Tennessee, which will hold its presidential primary on Feb. 5.

Crain was convicted in 1981 on federal charges connected with a scheme to rig bids on a state highway construction project. A decade later, she was embroiled in the Tennessee Waltz influence peddling scandal.

Also on the Clinton steering committee is twice-jailed former state House Majority Leader Tommy Burnett of Fentress County.

First imprisoned in 1984 for failure to file an income tax return, Burnett easily won re-election to an eighth term from his jail cell. A few years later, he was caught up in Operation Rocky Top, the federal corruption probe, and went back to jail for another year on federal conspiracy and illegal gambling charges. He went on to a successful career as a lobbyist.

The Clinton campaign has not yet returned a call for comment.

4. We sure can depend on you for the DU- Holiday Spirit Cheer.
I myself do not discriminate against felons. They paid their price. Additional shaming is a freeper trait.

22. No -- attempting to *stay in the game* is a freeper trait
It seems they like to keep the criminals around. Asking the voting public to vote for you when you employ FELONS who rig bids? Ohhh yeah -- that's from the same school Cheney comes from. Wonder what debt Hillary is repaying with these jobs? :puke:

a few years back.

18. But he wasn't ever convicted of anything
And although I'm not counting McLame out, I don't think he's going to get the nomination.

15. HRC has no plans to even open a campaign headquarters in my TN city..
"people here are too focused on local issues to get interested in primaries".. is what the local HRC rep said. TN is a notoriously closed political system, where positions are inherited rather than earned. A legacy kind of thing. The DNC here is horribly inactive, not open to anyone with a progressive/activist lean and supportive of nothing much more than status quo. It is quite disgusting. Anyone could have predicted who was chosen to lead the HRC campaign here. Its the old guard. Hopefully other campaigns will utilize the real "boots on the ground" here, who can and will get out the vote. Al Gore didn't even win his home state with these jokers at the wheel.

20. K Gardner, Gore didn't win his home state because...and you know this...
the NRA came into Tennessee at the last moment prior to the election and ran a hard-hitting campaign telling the people that Gore would take away their guns.

Thats why Gore lost his home state. There was no time to respond.

24. Update: Clinton campaign says 2 felons on Tennessee committee a mistake"
Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton's 100-person Tennessee Steering Committee includes two people convicted of felonies in the 1980s, a newspaper found.

The Tennessean of Nashville reported on its Web site Monday that the list included Gladys Crain, who was convicted in 1981, and former state House Majority Leader Tommy Burnett, who was imprisoned in 1984.

The Clinton campaign said Crain and Burnett's inclusion on the list was an oversight.

"These individuals were mistakenly included on the list we released and are not members of our steering committee," spokesman Isaac Baker said in an...
