Poll question: On the issue of Iraq, which is more important at the present time?
Simply binary poll. What say you?

1. Can't they just lie and declare victory? They lied us in they can lie us out.

2. One would think so.
They can fake a victory if it means ending the occupation and withdrawing the troops.

3. Binary thinking is a great idea.
When we use it, we don't need to consider things like the attitudes that bring us perpetual war, the military industrial complex, imperialism, use of resources, prevention of the next war.

It's as if all those things are in the past, water under the bridge.

Binaryland is a sweet sweet place.

5. Note the word "more" in the question.
It's not one or the other. Both are important. The question is which is *more* important at the present time.

8. It's like asking which is most important
stopping a rape in progress, or not raping this other woman over here.

It's not a binary thing. eom.

4. Going into Iraq was obviously stupid on many levels
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 03:12 PM by killbotfactory
There is NO good way to exit Iraq, which is one of the many reasons going into Iraq was so stupid. There are going to be consequences no matter how we go about it.

The way we went in, and how we went in, is more important to me than how we are getting out. There is no excuse for going in other than serious misjudgment or political cowardice. I realize a lot of people weren't aware of how stupid the idea was, or how many lies they were being fed, but for people who's job it is to get it right on these matters, there is no excuse. Especially when they don't even bother to read, much less critically examine, important intelligence estimates. The issue of war is too important. War should be a last resort, and threatening "pre-emptive" war against people who pose no threat to us, for the purposes of basically plundering their natural resources, is not only reckless and stupid, it is downright evil. This is literally the same type of crimes the nazi's were found guilty for.

Until people are held accountable for this massive crime, I will consider going into Iraq more important of an issue than getting out. No one has been held accountable. No one. And it fucking disgusts me.

But, most of all, I don't believe the people who opened this pandora's box are the best ones to fix the mess they've made. They've already shown their judgment and/or integrity can't be trusted.

7. I'm surprised that it wasn't even higher.
The war permeates and affects everything else in our society. The money being tossed around Iraq should be shoring up social programs here, building schools, improving health care, helping the homeless and the mentally ill. There are myriad things that would be much improved if only their budgets were as free-wheeling as the war budget. When I think about it, it makes me ill.

10. Some people just like to screw with polls...
and some people are trolls.

In either case, don't take them too seriously.

Those who voted NO on Iraq War Resolution are exempted from War Crimes charges.
