6. Really?

They were ardently anti-union then, just as they are now. I'm sorry, I don't believe they ever cared about the people that worked for them. Even when "the old man" was still around.

Wall-mart is just a bad place. It was then, as it is now.

Edited because I can't spel.

12. They have always been anti-union as far as I know. Hillary's efforts

there were more about the status of women in the company. The times has a pretty balanced piece about her efforts with the company:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/20/us/politics/20walmart.html?ex=1337313600&en=fafaac090e276942&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss

My comments were based on my experience. I worked there briefly right after grad school, and have heard innumerable conversations about how things have changed since Sam passed away. I despise going to Wal-mart, but I hate leaving my little house by the woods, so I really hate to shop ANYWHERE. :D

I have very mixed feeling about Wal-mart. I do see the benefits they provide to consumers who are trying to stretch a dollar as far as possible, and the jobs they provide in the communities that they build in. Contrast that with the anti-union attitudes, and the death of smaller mom and pop places, and the situation becomes more complex.
