Richardson: Hillary Is Flip-Flopping On Iraq
http://tpmelectioncentral.com/2007/12/richardson_hillary_is_flipflopping_on_iraq.php#comments

"Senator Clinton's comments are a stunning flip-flop," Richardson told the New York Times. "She's been saying she would keep troops in Iraq for five years, until 2013, and now she comes up with an inconsistent, incredible turnaround."

1. Wow, guess he's not running for Hillary's Veep as so many have assumed.
Or maybe he just got the word that he's been cut from consideration?

(And I say that as a Richardson suppporter - it's the obvious reaction!)

3. He knows the Clintons have cut him loose
from their train. I think he is just as happy to stay gov of New Mexico.
Besides I'd bet good money Hill will pick Obama if she doesn't pick Clark.

20. I honestly don't think that she would pick Obama.
Particularly after all the recent bad blood between them. She would be better off picking someone with strong military credentials or someone who can bring in the South.

6. Neither do I.
Because even if Hillary is President, it will be a figurehead presidency as she shills for the Corporate will of the new masters...

Peace.

5. Coming from Richardson,
maybe, a lot of H.C. supporters will now listen. Richardson is probably sincerely concerned. H.C. is still the front runner, at least according to most polls.

7. Didn't you read in your own article where it says Richardson actually misquoted her?

8. Where is the misquote?
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 11:07 AM by saddlesore
Bill Richardson, who previously decried attacks against Hillary Clinton, is now going after her for saying she would withdraw nearly all American troops from Iraq within her first year as president. It's a big change from his previously friendly rhetoric, and might go a way in dispelling the idea that he's just angling for the VP slot.

"Senator Clinton's comments are a stunning flip-flop," Richardson told the New York Times. "She's been saying she would keep troops in Iraq for five years, until 2013, and now she comes up with an inconsistent, incredible turnaround."

Late Update: The Hillary campaign already has their rebuttal posted. Richardson is actually misquoting her by saying she called for all troops to be brought home. This is what she really said:

“I think we can bring home one to two combat brigades a month,” Hillary said. “I think we can bring nearly everybody home, you know, certainly within a year if we keep at it and do it very steadily.” This would still allow for a small residual force.

Looks to me like he nailed it and Hill's camp is spinning it.

R: ...Withdraw nearly all...
HC: "called for all" Not what R said. (mis-quote?)
HC: "small residual" Some still left = nearly all

Did I miss something?

On edit...since Richardson is being paraphrased and not actually quoted I will look for the full quote of what he said...and I removed the quote marks from his 'supposed' quote.

Peace.

It seems that BR has some iffy facts.

I concede that his statements are wrong. Thanks for the debate.

13. The statement that Richardson is misquoting her...
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 11:19 AM by Zueda
Is based on hillary's rebuttal. It's up to the reader on how interpret the gist of the story.

Also keep in mind that it's no secret that the writer at tpm is biased.

14. Sorry folks, but flip-flopping on Iraq is a good thing.....
The American people have flip-flopped on Iraq and on a few other things.

When people have the courage to change from wrong positions they are to be admired and not condemned.

Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 11:37 AM by Zueda
as if americans were unamiously for the iraq war before it started. In reality just a little more than half was for it before it began..If the then leader of the democratic party(Bill Clinton) stood up on the right side of the issue we might not have been mislead into this stinking mess.

19. "...I like how you bundle every american opinion into one."
"....as if americans were unamiously for the iraq war before it started."

I like how you have problems reading, and spelling, and then rewriting what I said to suit yourself.

And where did you pull this one from:

"..If the then leader of the democratic party(Clinton) stood up on the right side of the issue we might not have been mislead in the stinking mess."

you said, "The American people have flip-flopped on Iraq".

I responded with "as if americans were unamiously for the iraq war before it started."

As far as your second question goes, I believe it's rather clear.

You friend, are the one who needs to brush-up on your reading comprehension.

21. This is NOT a "Flip-Flop"...!!!!
This is Classic Hillary DoubleSpeak.

Her dual position in Iraq has been operative for over a year, depending on to whom she is making promises.

*Hillary will either "End the WAR and Bring the Troops Home"

OR

*Hillary will maintain Combat Troops in Iraq to fight "AlQaeda" (whoever she decides THAT is), "Protect American (Corporate) Interests", and train Iraqis. (Bush's EXACT SAME Military Mission).

The best I can tell is that Hillary would like to downsize the WAR a little, give it another name, but keep the Killing going, and keep the $MONEY$ flowing to the Defense Contractors.

Hillary will INCREASE the size of our Military,
AND
INCREASE the amount of $MONEY$ flowing down the worthless pit of "Defense Appropriations".

Again, this is NOT a "Flip-Flop".
This is "DoubleSpeak""

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.
