McKinney Supporters Blaming Jews (August 8, 2006)
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 10:24 AM by LoZoccolo
Despite a landslide loss in Tuesday night's primary runoff against Hank Johnson, the controversy just keeps coming out of the Cynthia McKinney campaign.

First there was a scuffle between McKinney's bodyguards and an 11Alive news photographer, then there were remarks made to a cable network news crew, in which members of McKinney's entourage allegedly made shocking anti-Semitic remarks.

With Cynthia McKinney's Green Party primary run, I think that the vote totals will be another test of how low they are willing to sink.

3. McKinney is NOT her supporters. I'm not a big fan but trying to
paint her as an anti-semite is just wrong.

5. She is not her entourage either, but...
...they're a little bit closer to her than "supporters".

7. That was an ugly statement and I condemn it but it's
different from her supporters making anti-semitic comments. She's responsible for what comes out of her mouth, but not for what comes out of others- at least not to the same degree.

How do you come to that conclusion?

20. I don't know what the context was, but she may have been comparing him
to Bill Clinton, who was known to be completely comfortable in the company of African-Americans, something that is not always a given among white politicians.

21. Moron?
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 12:34 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
She's one of the sharpest, most perceptive people out there. Look at the video "American Blackout" and see her laying into Bush administration officials.

Far from being a "moron," she's TOO smart to suit the Republicanites and the pseudo-Democrats who have consistently supported the Bush administration's initiatives. Does she have rough edges, hell, yes. But she's the polar opposite of a "moron."

The Democratic establishment has treated Cynthia McKinney shamefully. She should have been one of their rising stars, not turned into a laughingstock. I can completely understand why she has gone and joined the Greens.

The current appeasers in the upper reaches of the Democratic party probably would have tried to marginalize Barbara Jordan for being "too tough" on Nixon, only they wouldn't have put it in those terms. They would have made fun of her weight and dark complexion and deep, slow voice.

14. Guilt-by-association is an awful accusation.
I think it's possible that McKinney is a rabid anti-Semite. But the attitudes of her entourage add nothing to the small evidence that she is anti-Jewish.

25. I agree on that
I don't know that much about McKinney, but I think that one needs to be very careful about any sort of guilt by association.

Incidentally, just to show how confused these things can become: the Daily Telegraph were aware that McKinney had been defeated by a Democrat, but did not realize that the battle had been within-party, so reported that 'Republican Cynthia McKinney' had been defeated(!)

18. Why is it sickening?
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 12:24 PM by JohnLocke
"Al Gore's Negro tolerance level has never been too high. I've never known him to have more than one black person around him at any given time." (Cynthia McKinney - said at the time when Gore's campaign manager was black)

McKinney is a fool.

I edited my post, but let me put it this way: She was an embarassment to the Democratic Party and her district, an extremist, and possibly antisemitic. I'm glad she's out of office (hopefully permanently) and I'm glad Hank Johnson is in.

19. Well, she stood up for a lot of progressive issues
I don't know if she was an embarassment but I shed no tears when Hank Johnson beat her. I just think calling her slime is crossing a line.

22. Why is it crossing a line?
She's no longer a Democrat. She's a Green and she's running for President AGAINST the Democrat. It's idiotic to say calling her a slime is "crossing a line." It's like saying calling Huckabee or Romney a slime is somehow wrong or bad.

You don't know if she was an embarassment?

At her April 23, 2006 "District Days" event, Rep. McKinney was being interviewed by WGCL's Renee Starzyk, who rather than asking questions about District Days as McKinney would have liked, repeatedly questioned her about the March 29 scuffle with a Capitol police officer. Frustrated, McKinney stood up and forgot she was still wearing the microphone. Her offscreen comments were captured on tape. She was heard saying, "Oh, crap, now you know what ... they lied to Coz and Coz is a fool."<51> She was referring to one of her aides, Coz Carson. McKinney realized the embarrassing mistake and returned on screen with the microphone, this time with instructions on what parts of the interview CBS 46 was allowed to use, "anything that is captured by your audio ... that is captured while I'm not seated in this chair is off the record and is not permissible to be used ... is that understood?"<52> Her comments were immediately aired on CBS and eventually across the nation.
