Rush's comments on Hillary?
Is nobody outraged by the statements of Rush Limbaugh about Hillary being an "aging woman?"

This is the kind of misogyny that highlights why a woman needs to lead this country.

I am proud of Hillary and I believe she has earned every single wrinkle she has. She is experienced and has run a better campaign than anyone out there right now. This is a woman we're talking about -- a woman who has faced challenges for not having a penis since the start.

Has this discussion board become so overly anti-Hillary that we would allow a comment like this to go without discussion? I hope not.

W.

3. Who listens to O'Reilly or Glen Beck or Ann Coulter or Mike Savage?
Apparently tens of millions when you add them up. And even if we don't ourselves, somehow that has not stopped us from being angry abouy their comments before.

it, I can't criticize if I don't know what he's saying.

14. Thanks. As a 51 year old woman who's aging
a lot less gracefully than Clinton has, this is bogus as I'm sure you've discerned. This is what Rush picks on? Has he looked in the mirror lately? Looks do mean something to voters unfortunately, but her looks shouldn't be the issue. It makes me wonder if he's run out of things to pick her apart about, which would be a good think for all the candidates.

I have to believe people tune into him for the comic value; it seems he offers little of substance.

8. Good post. For a democratic forum, there's a surprising lack of empathy for this
although, to be truthful, I've only noticed a handful of posters here that get off on things like the "aged" photos of Hillary.

Just the same, you are right about the lack of discussion on this, though.

In the minds of asshole rightwingers like Limbaugh and his ilk, when male politicians age, they become elder statesmen or "experienced". When female politicians age, they become old wrinkled up hags.

12. Few are outraged. Yes, anti-Hillary sentiment runs that deep here. The shallow hatred is shameful.
And I agree, she has earned every wrinkle. And I am proud of her as well. I was when I cheered her on as First Lady and when I supported her for her Senate bid.

It's sad, isn't it, that many here at Democratic Underground would allow such a bullshit attack on one of our own just slide by?

19. If 14 million tuned into the KKK to hear it, Yes
And if Drudge picked up on it and spread it, and then ABC (among many) made a blog entry about it asking people what they thought on the subject, etc. etc. then Yes, we should care.

Surely you have been on DU long enough to experience the reaction of activists here to some of the things Ann Coulter has said. While tons of outrage were being expressed John Edwards organized a fund raising appeal based on Coulter having called him a faggot. That's just one example.

Do you think silence is a better policy?

I'm not outraged by it, I just think it's yet another ridiculous comment from a ridiculous person. Does pillboy think it will be better watching any of the guys age? The Presidency does not do nice things to you. Obama, as young as he is, will look 20 years older at the end of a second term. Limbaugh is a complete idiot, who really gives a fuck what he says? Seriously.

21. That's true. Here is some of what she's had thrown at her by him in the past
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 10:26 PM by Tom Rinaldo
"OK, folks, I think I got enough information here to tell you about the contents of this fax that I got. Brace yourselves. This fax contains information that I have just been told will appear in a newsletter to Morgan Stanley sales personnel this afternoon.... What it is is a bit of news which says...there's a Washington consulting firm that has scheduled the release of a report that will appear, it will be published, that claims that Vince Foster was murdered in an apartment owned by Hillary Clinton, and the body was then taken to Fort Marcy Park."
Rush Limbaugh March 10 1994

For much more on this, see this F.A.I.R. Report:
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1236

Limbaugh never let go of making references to Clinton enemies getting murdered and dumped in Fort Marcy Park by the way:

"Media Matters for America has also documented two recent instances in which Limbaugh referred to Fort Marcy Park (in Northern Virginia, where Foster's body was found after he committed suicide), resurrecting the long-discredited right-wing claim that Vince Foster was murdered and that the Clintons were involved:

LIMBAUGH: That's why I'm telling you, whoever briefed Janet Reno, start searching Fort Marcy Park, folks. <4/13/04>

LIMBAUGH: They know that -- they're pretty confident Kerry is going to lose and if Kerry wins there's always Fort Marcy Park. So they're rolling the dice on this. <4/15/04>"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200406280004

Want another? OK this from a separate Media Matters page focused on coverage regarding Sandy Berger and his unauthorized possession of classified information, quoting from his July 2004 broadcast:

LIMBAUGH: One thing we can be sure of, ladies and gentlemen, is these missing documents will not show up in the Map Room of the White House like the Rose Law Firm billing records, unless there is a former Clinton administration official who can worm his way back into the White House and plant them there -- and Sandy Burglar, stay away from Fort Marcy Park."

24. Foul odors are sometimes what triggers aggressive cleaning. Actually...
...I suspect a good number of folks here aren't aware that Limbaugh has never stopped working his "the Clintons killed Foster" schtick. Now he just plays it as a kind of joke line. This is the type of thing that Hillary has had to hold up under for years. And she has.

34. Ummm, read a few of my other posts. Try a DU search...
(pssst we just might be supporting the same person on this thread)

I don't believe there are any non total wing nut people left in this nation who still entertain any notion that the Clinton's killed Foster - and certainly not here on DU. What I am "pushing" here is a reminder of how much ugly shit the Clinton's have already weathered and defeated already. I am pushing how turning a blind eye to a slightly less obvious hate attack from Rush regarding female aging is complicity in the agenda of a Right wing cabal that tried to overthrow the government of the United States who will stop at nothing to destroy their opponents.

Here, you can read my original Kos diary where I collected some of the reseach I posted above. Judge the intent for yourself:

The most dependable voters are women over 50 years. I imagine they wont take too kindly to this kind of attack. And on top of that, I'd make every GOP candidate disavow rush publicly. The dems need to fight back hard on this no matter who the nominee is.

32. This is unfortunate ... but not surprising ...
Prejudice/Misogyny runs deep.

Hillary has been forced to run this campaign as sex-neutral as possible; even making sure she emphasizes the more hawkish sides of her policies in order to prove her ability to lead.

She not only has to prove herself as a candidate, she has to prove herself as a woman. And with all of that, she is kicking butt. :)

38. This is the asshat who...
...once suggested that if women were to be allowed into the military, they should be rotated to the front lines once every month, during the time when they would be more "aggressive". (I think you can guess what time of the month he was referring to)

So, I tend to put about as much stock in Rush's opinion on women as I would on Osama's views on human rights.

39. Right ... my point is ...
We're supposed to be taking care of our own.

The liberal/progressive minded people of America need to declare this kind of talk unacceptable. Period. It is unacceptable to treat women like this. No question.

The challenges Hillary faces for simply being a woman are incredible when you think about where we are and where we've been.

People always think in extremes when it comes to prejudice. Lack of a extremes only means we've managed to keep it at bay. It's in the everyday and in the accepted language where we find true prejudice; and we face the consequences of that every single day too.

W.
