Poll question: If Hillary gets the nomination, I will NOT vote for her in the general election
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 12:35 AM by Onlooker
Instructions: Read the poll question. Is it True or False for you? If it's True, answer True by the demographic to which you belong. If it's False, answer False.

Background: In a poll conducted earlier:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3859715&mesg_id=3859715

44% of DUers said no to the question, "Will you support the Democratic nominee regardless of who it is?"

I strongly suspect most of the no's meant that they would not vote for Hillary, but I want to see if those who said no have a demographic in common. It's my contention that many minorities are concerned enough about their rights being eroded by the SC that they will choose a bad Democrat rather than let a Republican get elected, while for non-minorities that's a less pressing issue.

5. I'm not sure how to answer it either...
is the question would we still vote for Hillary? Or would we not vote for hillary? Yes or no would have been better than true/false....

6. It's sort of awkward, isn't it
I want to see who it is who would not vote for Hillary if she's the nominee. So, if you agree with the question (statement, actually) choose True, and if you disagree choose False.

11. The thing about the supreme court is a crock, you know.
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 12:45 AM by Heaven and Earth
They don't need another conservative justice to get their way. They've already overturned such venerable cases as Brown v. Board and Tinker v. Des Moines, simply by never explicitly saying they are overruling them. All they need is to appeal to the ego of the narcissist Anthony Kennedy, and they get what they want. Unless Kennedy is the next one to leave the court, all a Democratic president can do is mark time, while more precedents fall, unless we can find the second coming of William Brennan, and do you think that Hillary has the guts to try to appoint such a person, or will she cave to the inevitable Republican filibuster? Even if we get sixty, would Ben Nelson go along with a "liberal lion" justice?

12. Useless poll.
Without available data on the overall % of DUer's that fit those race/gender/sexual orientation preferences, there is no way of knowing how any of this information fits into the universe that is DU.

DU polls are unscientific already, but this adding these variables just makes it race/gender/orientation baiting.

17. Not completely useless
You can get some sense by comparing the results for each group (e.g., white straight women are those who are most likely to oppose Hillary in a gen'l election while gays and lesbians are most likely to support her). But, the sample is small, the timing is suspect (with people very competitive right now), and we know little else about those who voted.

13. Two questions on the premise:
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 01:50 AM by FlyingSquirrel
(1) So all gay & lesbian people fit neatly into a single category regardless of whether they're male or female, person of color etc?

(2) What exactly is a minority these days in this country? And why do any of these categories matter with regard to this candidate in particular?

Also one question on the responses:

How can there be such a high number of people saying they will not vote for her in the general election? Regardless of whom you are supporting at this time, is this not a Democratic website? Should we not all be pledging to support the nominee, whoever it may be? I would vote for GRAVEL in the general election if he was the party's choice. I would vote for any one of the current nominees gladly and without reservation, and that includes my second-to-last choice, Ms. Clinton. Are the people who are saying otherwise being truthful or are you just trying to scare Clinton supporters into shifting to a different candidate?

15. response
In answer to both question, I wanted to see if those who will "stand on principle" and not support Hillary if she's the nominee are those whose rights are already protected by our society, namely white straight men first and white straight women second.
