Clinton wants Illinois supporters to head to Iowa
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is in Illinois tonight where she asked supporters to head to Iowa.

Clinton told a crowd of several hundred people at 1 of 2 downtown Chicago fundraisers that her campaign will put them to work if they can come to Iowa. The state's presidential caucuses are January 3rd.

Tuesday's Chicago events were profitable for the New York senator. Campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe told the crowd the events raised $1 million.

way to disenfranchise Iowans by bringing in ringers. :eyes:
do they have Iowa driver's licenses? do they qualify for in-state tuition?

1. It's alright to do...they have to be Iowans to caucus though
Anyone can go to Iowa (or any state) and do grassroots work for their candidate of choice. They may be asked where they are from. They certainly need to be lawfully citizens of the state to vote or caucus.

They can, however, be observers at a caucus but can't participate in the process.

14. I appreciate you pointing out the irony though
Was it last week where the mere thought of anyone from Illinois even tip-toeing into Iowan tundra would be suspect...

She asked them to come work on her campaign - not vote.

9. Sounds like an invitation to me............
Many people want to become involved but are hesitant until simply being asked and invited to join the fun. Many, many people don't realize they can go out of state and volunteer for a campaign. It's a bit intimidating. An invitation opens the door to many who want to experience such an adventure.

12. It can be very helpful
Many older caucusgoers might skip it without assistance to get them to the polls. We learned this in 04 first hand as the busfulls from the homes showed up with people rolling them in and hold their hands up for them to vote Kerry.

11. I imagine she's telling people to go to Iowa to campaign for the next
couple of weeks - not to attend the caucuses.

This happens in Minnesota every four years and I imagine it goes on in every other state that borders Iowa - bus loads of a candidate's supporters head for Iowa for a weekend of doorknocking or lit dropping. I know there were several groups going last weekend for various candidates.

This is not a big deal.

26. During the last presidential election...
a veritable army of people, including attorneys, headed for Ohio to observe polling places, help transport seniors and other to the polls, and campaign. These people came from all over the country.

This was a massive national effort to stop cold, the BushCo fix which took place anyway.

In this year's program, it was Obama who brought up bringing college students to Iowa in order to caucus. At first, it was a bus ride to Iowa, but that came under the gift laws...so the bus ride became a round trip. Now Clinton wants to bring in people to help in the campaign. As many here have stated, it is done every time--particularly in the early primaries and in problem states.

Dunno if it helps or hinders. It certainly is economically good for Iowa.
