More explanation of the "bat" figures. Excellent.
Swinging the Bat
Some of you have asked about the number of contributors on the bat graphic... this number represents the total number of contributors this quarter alone-- approximately 128,000 as I write this. Of these, an incredible 52,000 are brand new, first-time contributors, as Trippi wrote.

And so far this year, more than 280,000 Americans have contributed to the Dean campaign, changing the way politics is done in our country forever.

3. What Democrat has the 2nd best?
Also, why does this trasnlate into huge money numbers for Dean in a natl election? Some who contribute now may contribute again in the GE, but this doesn't mean he would generate huge numbers.

6. His campaign isn't showing any signs of slowing down
And if he wins the nomination, that will be 8 less in the race competing for donations.

And he's only 5 million away from the limit that every other candidate could spend until Bush is officially nominated in september. (other than Kerry who also opted out of public financing).

So he already has an advantage over everyone in fundraising.

4. Dean's done a fantastic job
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 05:47 PM by Bucky
edited to fix dollar amount
Anyone complaining about him "changing the bat" at the last minute is either naive about politics or is being disingenuous to get in a dig. Maybe Dean couldn't get the $1.5mil goal he'd set for New Year's Eve, but this wasn't a realistic goal. He got rid of the 1.5 million bat and decided to only highlight the fact that he's raked in almost $15 million this quarter alone. That is still record-setting and deserves the highest praise.

He's turned a LOT of new people onto the political system and that's a good thing no matter how you look at it. Good job, Dean people. ABB!

. . . . . . Just 9 most posts till #1000! Yee-hawww!!

5. The amount to raise is pretty much the same.
There was about 800K left on the 1.5 mill bat, and Dean needs about 800K to match last quarter's effort.
