What's your favorite song the candidates/past candidates use/used?
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 01:17 AM by Kerry2008
In 2004, I loved when Senator Kerry used U2's "Beautiful Day" and Bruce Springsteens "No Surrender"

Loved when Clinton/Gore used "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac.

I loved Obama's announcement speech when he used U2's "City of Blinding Lights"

Kind of an unusual candidate thread for DU. No attacks. Just fun posting your favorite campaign song from your favorite or maybe not favorite candidate!!

:) Happy posting all. Happy Holidays.

3. Bill Clinton ... Don't Stop
Fleetwood Mac

I never felt more hopeful about our future than when I heard that song with Bill, Hillary, Chelsea, Al and Tipper standing upon that stage.

4. "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" ...
... always stands out in my mind.

Saw an interview with Stevie Nicks a few years later, in which she said (paraphrasing from memory here): "We were invited by the President and the First Lady to perform. That made us the First Band - well, at least for a night. No one can ever take that away from us."

It was a song about hope and what could be. At the time, we didn't foresee the despair that would replace such notions with the next administration.

(BTW: GREAT thread idea!)

5. At Kerry headquarters in Titusville, FL....
there was an inspirational piece with speech excerpts set to the song that goes, "Stop Children what's that sound..."

It was pretty cool.

8. For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield.
It was my favorite song in 2004. I love that song.

Read the lyrics. Awesome lyrics.

There is a good remix with JFK, RFK, MLK, and John Kerry quotes mixed in.

6. Keep On Pushin'
I don't know if he used it in his campaign, but when he walked into that music at the convention... well he had me.

9. The ONLY good song in recent history
Was "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac (Clinton/Gore '92). The other songs mentioned are by singers whose lyrics are unintelligible and whose songs drone. It's gotta be upbeat and inspiring!!

14. I love it when Obama uses "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 06:22 AM by beaconess
It just makes me feel good whenever I hear that song. And there's something very generational and fun and uplifting about it.

And it's Stevie Wonder. 'nuff said.
