2. watching it now,...
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 07:41 AM by annie1
she is one of the most unrelaxed human being i've ever seen. and is it only because I watch the race so closely that it seems to me like she's just saying the same thing word for word that she said the day before? i hate that. do other people who don't watch as closely as we do see that? "some people think you get chance by ... i think you get it by hard work"

but i do like it when she finally melts a little a starts talking honestly. she melted a little bit when she talked about bush. too bad she can't be more from the heart more often. what was with that smile? she looks like she got cheek implants or something.

anyway, i still love her. she just needs to cool out.

7. I'm glad no one I know loves me the way you love
her. And what's with the snark about plastic surgery? How is that any better than snark about Edwards primping in front of the mirror?

Btw, I gather you actually know very little about presidential politics. All the candidates have a standard stump speech that they repeat ad nauseum. The say the same thing day after day after day.

I don't watch tv at all, so I didn't see the interview, but I find responses to what people see on the boob tube, interesting.

11. i love watching edwards primp...
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 08:39 AM by annie1
since i like him, it's not an insult if that word were to come out of my mouth. i think his hair looks great, and if he wants to primp, he's welcome to. if it came from me, it wouldn't be a snark.

if anything, i just want her to come off as relaxed as possible. so i get nervous when she doesn't. and yeah, one debate edwards neck was completely red and i asked about that. wasn't a sexist comment, his neck looked wild. i asked about it online, everyone noticed it, but no one knew why it looked like that.

and about the question about weather that is standard stump, it was a real question, not a statement. and you said they have a standard stump, if i knew i wouldn't have asked. that's all.

13. Perhaps you do, but it's slightly obtuse to deny that such
talk and photos are used to demean Edwards. Just as talk about plastic surgery is used to demean Clinton.

14. i hear you...
but it does depend on where the person is coming from. maybe i shouldn't comment about that type of stuff knowing that it also often gets used against her.

18. It's not equivilent
Edwards is assumed to be very good looking - having a sunburn is the likely cause of a red neck - it's temporary and not a negative - even if you advocate better use of sun screen. :)

I have no idea, nor do I care if HRC has had plastic surgery, but to some this would be a negative. She was a prettier than average girl in high school and college and is attractive for her age now. That is not a reason to vote for or against her.

17. All of the candidates have a set of responses that come from their stump speech
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 08:53 AM by karynnj
They and their team have worked to find the clearest most effective ways of saying things. It actually helps because hearing virtually the same thing many times lets it sink in.

Think of 2004, there are key phrases that Kerry said that almost everyone now recognizes when they are posted, usually in response to claims he didn't speak of those things. (Things like "Bush misled us into war, without letting the inspectors complete their work, without exhausting the diplomacy, without preparing for the peace, ....., not as a war of last resort" or his outsourcing the OBL capture comment.)

Having obsessively watched CSPAN in 2004, it was clear that one Edwards rally was almost verbatim every other Edwards rally. They were slightly different in the general election from the primary. Kerry was a bit more complex. It seemed that he had long, detailed speeches on several topics. His stump speech though took segments from each of them - but he varied the amount of detail on each in different places and ad libbed a lot (expanding on topics that interested the crowds). That difference in depth showed in the debates. There were questions that Edwards didn't really have answers for and he tended to go very quickly to his stump rhetoric whenever the topic was close.

He seems better in that regard in 2007, but he still has deer in the headlight moments. HRC has greater depth, but often seems to eager to avoid really answering questions.

23. I agree - I think I had that "Two Americas" speech memorized at one point!
But I agree with a poster above who commented that Hillary looks better when she is relaxed and answering from the heart: that is why I felt like she looked so presidential when she was giving the news conference about the hostage situation in New Hampshire. I commented on the way she "looked" at the time.

Canned speeches are there for a reason: they have been tested over and over again for reactions. All serious candidates speak that way.

3. she cackled (I SWEAR!) her greeting in Mourning Joe already
what a harsh, unpleasant, and pre-programmed sound. Worse than my alarm clock. and less pleasant.

15. An alarm clock with Her Cackle would be incredibly effective as well as a cure for most hangovers
It's now an identifying feature of her persona like Bush's Smirk.

5. She's on now, cackling about the hill-a-copter OY
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 07:52 AM by karynnj
She said that Iraq and healthcare are the two biggest issues.

Asked how she would fight the war on terror - says that she takes it seriously, and that she is aware of it as a NYer and that she has worked on this on the Armed Services Committee. That we need more friends in the world to help us on this.

Asked about Obama surge, she doesn't think of it much - feels real good about where her campaign is - cites the logic in the Des Moines Register. She's the one who can hit the ground running.

They quoted BC's comment that it would take a miracle for her to win Iowa (after they noted she and Obama are running neck to neck with Obama) and ended in a silly discussion about BC being the comeback kid - so she will be the comeback Senator.

Then told a story that mentioned her bill to help those with autism and a woman who lost her hair to chemo and made her head look like HRC's campaign button, saying that the woman put her trust in her.

(Now I get to turn to CSPAN!!!! As a non HRC supporter, there was nothing either particularly good or bad here. They tried no gotchas, she said nothing surprising.)

Plutocrats expect favors. Can't let her base down, ya know.

21. It's all about profit and the Clintons understand that by now
It's all wink-wink-nod-nod. The more they abuse the Clintons, the better for their profile in the Democratic Party. What do you think would happen
if Murdoch gushed over Hillary the way he did at that fundraiser?
