Gonna see Obama Thursday....Rochester Nh....
Just got off the phone with a campaign worker....Told him I was leaning towards Edwards but supporting Kuchinich in the primary to move the field left.He said listening to Obama might change my mind.I asked if the staffers followed DU and he allowed as he at least did....Gave him my screen name which he wrote down....Got that? Say the right things and maybe you CAN shape the debate....For the Obama worker/lurker here, Thank You-we had an above board discussion of where the party should be and your openness and candor convinced me that Obama has good people around him and that alone gives him points in my book.Looking forward to Thursday....

4. Only sound bites so far....
He has a couple of points to convince me on that he is the best answer to...
1. Support of unions and rebuilding our industrial base.
2.Universal Health Care.
3.Restoring the Constitution.
4.Supporting prosecution of illegal acts by current administration figures.
5.Bringing our troops home.
6.Forcing a move to renewable energy sources.
7.Killing corporate "personhood" and removing lobbyists (corporate) from the legislative process.

Convince me of four of those and I will walk on my knees over glass to support him.

6. My count is 5 and 1/2. If you're going to go to one of the Big 3, Barack Obama is your best bet.

It's not single payer but it will cover more people than Hillary or J.E. and it will work.

3. Barack Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago, so he very well knows how much it has been maimed.

Why don't we close Guantanamo and restore the right of habeas corpus, because that's how we lead, not with the might of our military, but the power of our ideals and the power of our values. It's time to show the world we're not a country that ships prisoners in the dead of night to be tortured in far off countries. We're not a country that runs prisons which locks people away without ever telling them why they're there or what they're charged with. We're not a country which preaches compassion to others while we allow bodies to float down the streets of major American cities. That's not who we are.

4. We've got to move forward. I want them in jail cells too but I'd rather focus on ending the war and reforming healthcare, education and the economy.

5. "We should not be arguing that our troops have to stay in Iraq to counter Iran. Now is the time to end the war in Iraq. Now is the time to start bringing our troops out of Iraq -- immediately. That's why I have a plan to remove one or two combat brigades a month so that we get all of our combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months -- that's as quickly and responsibly as we can do this. The only troops I will keep in Iraq for a limited time will protect our diplomats and carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda -- not sustained combat. And I will launch the diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives that are so badly needed. So let there be no doubt: I will end this war."

"Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the level recommended by top scientists to avoid calamitous impacts.
Invest $150 billion over the next ten years to develop and deploy climate friendly energy supplies, protect our existing manufacturing base and create millions of new jobs.
Dramatically improve energy efficiency to reduce energy intensity of our economy by 50 percent by 2030.
Reduce our dependence on foreign oil and reduce oil consumption overall by at least 35 percent, or 10 million barrels of oil, by 2030.
Make the U.S. a leader in the global effort to combat climate change by leading a new international global warming partnership."

7. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/corruption/
"The well-connected CEOs and hired guns on K Street who've helped write our laws have gotten what they paid for. They got all the tax breaks and loopholes and access they could ever want. But outside this city, the people who can't afford the high-priced lobbyists and don't want to break the law are wondering, "When is it our turn? When will someone in Washington stand up for me?"

We need to answer that call because let's face it - for the last few years, the people running Washington simply haven't. And while only some are to blame for the corruption that has plagued this city, all are responsible for fixing it.

Now, I've been asked by my caucus to take a role in lobbying reform - a role I'm proud to have. As many of you know I'm from Chicago - a city that hasn't always had the cleanest reputation when it comes to politics in this country. But during my first year in the Illinois State Senate, I helped lead the fight to pass Illinois' first ethics reform bill in twenty-five years. I hope we can do something like that here.

I realize there are many proposals floating around out there, and I also realize that our friends on the other side of the aisle have many of their own. I think that's commendable. In fact, I look forward to working in a bipartisan fashion to get a solid bill passed.

But this has to be a serious bill, and it has to go a long way toward correcting some of the most egregious offenses of the last few years. This is not a time for window-dressing or putting a band-aid on a problem just to score political points. This is a time for real reform, and I think the Democrats' Honest Leadership and Open Government Act does this by including provisions that so far the Republican proposals do not.
