My wife finds Jon Stewart offensive.
Blew my mind. I was watching some old rerun of the Daily Show and, after a few minutes, my wife looked over at me and said, "who is this asshole?"

They were playing a story about the Surgeon General being told he couldn't support the Special Olympics because the Kennedys were involved in them. Steward made some comment about "it isn't right to throw disabled kids under the bus just because of the Kennedys. Now the Clintons, that's understandable."

I'm not sure what about that set her off, but my wife was pissed. I tried talking to her about it, to no avail.

It wasn't about the Clinton crack, I don't think. She's not a big fan of either of them. Well, she thought Bill was okay, though she was never thrilled about him lying to Congress. She doesn't like Hillary at all.

I was baffled. Hell, I'm STILL baffled.

6. Tripped me out.
She went into the bathroom to get ready for bed and forget why, she was so offended.

I was like "he was being sarcastic. He doesn't mean it literally."

Didn't matter. Offended she remained.

Sorry, just giving you the business, beaver.

Maybe she just doesn't like satire. My wife doesn't. She thinks Stewart is funny, but that is probably more the politics talking than the literary form. My wife gets satire, just doesn't like it.

 Takes all kinds to make the world spin, I guess (I know, I know, it's about gravity, centrifigual force, or some shit, but I'm an English teacher so I went for the metaphor).

Perhaps its low self-esteem.

Maher is degrading and condescending to women. Some women like that.

OTOH you have to be pretty confident to laugh at yourself and appreciate real satire a la Stewart.

There's something about constant stress that short-circuits the irony/sarcasm gene, at which point the class clown looks more like a common asshole.

42. My best friend doesn't like Jon Stewart. I keep trying to get her
to watch him for at least a week and try to catch on to his humor. She remembers him from some old show he was on and said she didn't like him then so why should she now. Well, I think she's being stubborn. Then again, I watch Tweety everyday so I'm not a good judge of character. Eh, when it comes to Jon Stewart, he is GOD!

Hey, the person I live with just told me a couple months ago that she clapped and whooped for joy when Kennedy was assassinated. We were both kids at the time and I didn't know her then, thank-god. I'm still not over her telling me that. She was a die hard Republican until Bush came along. But still, being overjoyed by JFK's death is simply too much. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Sorry about you not being able to share Jon Stewart's wonderfullness with your spouse.

Some of his jokes are off color, at least to progressives like me. Remember how he treated Howard Dean in 2003? I think overall though, he's the best thing that has happened to TV in 20 years.

Regarding compatibility issues, a certain amount of difference or tension is required in any relationship to be successful.

Maybe she will like Steven Colbert? ;)

or with being senior, or with being a senior correspondent.

It's like discussing somebody's computer by talking about what color its outer shell is. Who cares.

"What kind of computer do you have?"

"Green."

Well maybe that doesn't explain it.

but finding it offensive? Does she finds members of this administration offensive with their lies and obfuscation? BTW, does your wife understand that the impeachment was a political witch hunt and that those trying to do so were all guilty of the same or worse?

Also does she dislike or not get sarcastic humor or political satire? Stewart is more entertaining if you are informed of current events.
