Want an example as to why the polling is screwed up?
45% of Democrats don't know enough about Kucinich to offer an opinion about him?

For some reason I highly doubt that. I think people know who this guy is. If not, the only thing holding back DK is his visibility. For some reason, when polling strictly Democratics voters, something doesn't seem right about that.

..............................................................................
Dennis Kucinich is seen by Democratic voters as the most liberal candidate in their field of potential
Democrats See Kucinich, Obama as Their Most Liberal Candidates

Presidential nominees. Thirty-five percent (35%) hold that view of the Ohio Congressman. But, an even larger number, 45%, don't know enough to offer an opinion about him.

Among the more competitive candidates, Barack Obama is seen as furthest to the left. Thirty-four percent (34%) of Democratic voters see the Illinois Senator as politically liberal. Twenty-nine percent (29%) say the same about Hillary Clinton, and 26% hold that view of John Edwards. Joe Biden is seen as politically liberal by 25% while 18% say the same about Bill Richardson.

Among Democrats, Clinton is viewed as the most moderate candidate—47% offer that assessment of her. Forty-one percent (41%) see Obama as moderate, and 38% see Edwards in that way. Thirty-three percent (33%) of Democratic voters say the term moderate applies to Richardson, 32% to Biden, and 15% to Kucinich.

Clinton remains the Democratic frontrunner in national polling and in New Hampshire.

The perceived gap between the Democratic candidates is smaller than the one between Republican hopefuls. Seventy percent (70%) of Republican voters view their party's frontrunner, Rudy Giuliani, as politically moderate or liberal. Forty-six percent (46%) say that Mitt Romney is politically conservative.

2. It can't all be blamed on the media...
a good number of those folks have access to the Internet, and if they were curious enough, they could go out and find out about him. I don't think people are too motivated about the Presidential race yet, as they know it will likely be decided before they ever cast a vote.

Starting the race earlier and earlier only serves the more well-known, and well-funded candidates.

4. I don't think the media has anything to do with it
Registered Democrats generally know who's who. It's like registered Republicans not knowing who Ron Paul is.

3. This does not surprise me.
There are so many indifferent and ignorant people out there. It does not matter what party they say they support. I see these people all the time in my precinct, and I know they are not all stupid. They simply do not pay attention.

Why do you suppose repukes win? They get all the media attention, unless it is something negative about a Democrat.

5. I'd say that's accurate...
Kucinich is well known by Democratic Activists, but his name prompts a "who?" from just about every other average Democrat that I've worked/talked with.

Let's not forget that DU and people like "us" make up a very small percentage of the American electorate.

6. Don't forget the fact that Dennis is ...

consistantly screwed when it comes to any election coverage. Look at the debates for example...not only is he given the least amount of "face time", the moderators treat him as some sort of comic relief.
Dennis did really well in the NPR/IPR debate, but never got a mention in the followup coverage.
The media may not be all to blame but they do share a certain responsibility.

7. Most didn't know who John Kerry was
AFTER he had won the primaries. How can any Democrat not know John Kerry. I don't get it. But most people don't pay any attention to the news, at all. None. Zero. Zip. They vote based on party and the influence of friends and family. That's why I always say that every word out of a DUers mouth is important. Make sure those words encourage people to vote Democratic, that's all that really matters.

9. Your failure to believe polling data does not mean the polling is erroneous. Besides,
if I were a Kucinich supporter, I'd be happy about that data. Those that do know about him generally don't like him.
